7th Annual San Antonio African American Book Festival Returns to the East Side on February 28th
The 7th Annual San Antonio African American Book Festival returns on Saturday, February 28, 2026, bringing together authors, readers, families, and community members for a full day celebrating Black literature, culture, and storytelling.
Hosted at 3310 E. Commerce Street on San Antonio’s historic East Side, the free, family-friendly festival has become one of the region’s most anticipated Black History Month literary events. The annual gathering highlights the power of Black voices while creating direct opportunities to support Black authors and small businesses.
Attendees can expect author meet-and-greets, book signings, literary discussions, readings, and interactive programming designed for readers of all ages. The festival features a wide range of genres including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and children’s literature, with both local and nationally recognized authors represented.
Organizers say the event is rooted in community and access — making literature visible, affordable, and engaging while encouraging literacy and cultural pride. The festival also emphasizes the importance of circulating Black dollars by connecting readers directly with authors and vendors.
Admission is free and open to the public. Registration is encouraged but not required, and all are welcome to attend, explore new books, and experience a vibrant celebration of Black creativity and expression in San Antonio.
