The San Antonio Observer is a weekly newspaper headquartered in San Antonio, Texas. Founded in 1995, the publication provides local news, politics, business coverage, community reporting, and investigative journalism focused on issues impacting San Antonio and the surrounding region.
For three decades, The San Antonio Observer has served as an independent voice highlighting stories, perspectives, and community concerns that are often overlooked in traditional media. The publication is the city’s only African American newspaper and one of the largest Black-owned newspapers in South Texas.
The San Antonio Observer has been recognized by the City of San Antonio as a Legacy Business, honoring the publication’s longstanding contribution to the cultural and civic life of the city. This recognition reflects the newspaper’s deep roots in the community and its continued role in informing and empowering residents.
The publication is also a member of the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA), a historic trade organization representing more than 200 African American–owned newspapers across the United States.
