San Antonio Homeowners Can Attend Free Workshops to Learn How to Protest Property Taxes and Apply for Exemptions
The City of San Antonio is rolling out its 2026 Property Tax Help Workshops, giving homeowners across the city a chance to learn how to lower their property tax bills through exemptions and the protest process.
The sessions, running through May 14, are designed to walk residents step-by-step through how property values are assessed and how to challenge them. Homeowners will also be able to apply for exemptions that could reduce their overall tax burden.
Each workshop begins with a presentation from Texas True Tax explaining available exemptions and how to file a protest. Afterward, attendees can receive one-on-one assistance from trained representatives who will help answer questions and complete paperwork.

“Homeowners continue to see their property taxes increase even though San Antonio’s local homestead exemption is the maximum allowed by the state,” said Veronica Garcia, Director of the City’s Neighborhood and Housing Services Department. “These workshops help homeowners learn how to get the savings they’re entitled to.”
Representatives from the Bexar Central Appraisal District will be on site to answer questions and allow residents to file documents during the event. Staff from the Tax Assessor’s Office will also be available to explain payment plans.
Doors open 30 minutes before each workshop, and assistance is provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Capacity may vary depending on volunteer availability.
Spanish and American Sign Language interpreters will be available at all sessions, with additional workshops in Spanish, Arabic, and Vietnamese scheduled for May 14.
