Racist Livestreamer Known As ‘Chud The Builder’ Charged With Attempted Murder

Man Known For Racially Derogatory Livestreams Charged With Attempted Murder After Tennessee Shooting

A man who livestreams himself making racially derogatory comments to Black people in public was arrested and charged with attempted murder after a shooting outside a Tennessee courthouse, authorities said.

Dalton Eatherly, 28, who goes by “Chud the Builder” online, was involved in a confrontation with another man that ended in gunfire outside a courthouse in Clarksville, Tennessee, according to District Attorney Robert J. Nash.

Authorities have not said what led to the confrontation or why Eatherly was at the courthouse.

Both Men Were Hospitalized After The Shooting

Both men were transported to hospitals for medical treatment and were listed in stable condition, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Eatherly was held at the Montgomery County jail pending an arraignment hearing. In addition to attempted murder, he was charged with employing a firearm during a dangerous felony, aggravated assault and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon.

Witnesses Described Eatherly As Known For Public Confrontations

Claire Martin, who works in an attorney’s office across the street from the courthouse, said Eatherly is known in Clarksville for antagonizing people while filming them.

Martin said Eatherly “yells racial slurs” at people and described him as someone who provokes others in public settings.

Eatherly Claimed Self Defense In A Video

In a video posted Wednesday, Eatherly claimed he shot a man in self defense after the person started hitting him. The clip showed him speaking with paramedics as they examined his injuries.

Eatherly had been scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning in a civil case involving a $3,300 debt allegedly owed to a credit company, according to Montgomery County court records.

Separate Charges Filed After Nashville Steakhouse Incident

Eatherly also faces charges in Davidson County after authorities said he became unruly at a Nashville steakhouse, refused to pay a nearly $400 bill and continued streaming after being told to stop.

According to an affidavit, he began yelling, screaming and making racial statements after restaurant staff asked him not to stream inside the business.

He was arrested Sunday on theft of services, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest charges and released on $5,000 bond. His next court appearance in that case was scheduled for July 17.
