Crafts, Culture And Community Events Fill San Antonio’s Week

This weekend is Mother’s Day weekend and May is settling into San Antonio with a mix of outdoor fun, family programs, live music and hands-on community events.

This weekend brings a full slate of San Antonio events, with outdoor activities, family-friendly programs, local arts, community celebrations and music leading the way. As May continues, residents can also look ahead to summer youth programs, Memorial Day weekend events and seasonal festitives across the town.

This Week’s Calendar of Events: May 7-May 14

2026 Summer Youth Program
Where: Various locations | When: June 1-July 31

The City of San Antonio’s Summer Youth Program returns with activities for kids and teens at various locations throughout the summer. Registration began April 18 but the books are still open. Click here for registration, cost and location details.

2026 Summer Teen Club
Where: Garza Community Center, Frank Garrett Multi-Service Center, South San Community Center and Woodard Community Center | When: June 1-July 31, dates vary by location | 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Teens ages 13-17 can join the free Summer Teen Club for STEAM activities, esports, sports, fitness, fine arts and special programming. Lunch and snacks are included. Register online or at a participating community center.

Friday, May 8

Amazing Preservation Race
Where: Legacy Park, 103 W. Houston | When: Friday, May 8 | Check In at 5:30 PM, Race Starts at 6:30 PM

Join the Office of Historic Preservation for a downtown urban scavenger hunt where teams of four follow clues, complete challenges, and race to fill their passports before crossing the finish line. Admission is $30 per person. Register your team to participate.

Jazz In The Garden
Where: Japanese Tea Garden, 3853 N. St. Mary’s St. | When: Friday, May 8 | 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM

Enjoy an evening of live jazz at the Japanese Tea Garden, hosted by the San Antonio Parks Foundation and KRTU. Food and beverages will be available for purchase, and a suggested $5 donation supports the park and future events. For more, visit saparks.org.

Sunday, May 10

Sana Sunday Zumba to Zen
Where: Plaza Juarez at La Villita Historic Arts Village | When: Sunday, May 10 | 10-11 a.m.

Start Mother’s Day with a free outdoor Zumba class led by certified instructor Suzie Saylor in the shaded Plaza Juarez. Registration is required and limited to two people per sign-up.

Tuesday, May 12

Craft Tuesday: Tie Dye DIY
Where: Villita Street at Cos House | When: Tuesday, May 12 | 6-8 p.m.

La Villita’s free Craft Tuesday series continues with a family-friendly tie-dye workshop taught by local artist Ida De La Rosa Ellis of De La Rosa Designs. Supplies are provided, but seating is limited and reservations are required.

Thursday, May 14

2026 Contemporary Dance Recital
Where: Jo Long Theatre, Carver Community Cultural Center, 226 N. Hackberry St. | When: Thursday, May 14 | Doors open at 6 p.m., event starts at 7 p.m.

The 2026 Contemporary Dance Recital will take place at the Jo Long Theatre inside the Carver Community Cultural Center. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis, food and drinks are prohibited, and free parking is available.

Mission Marquee Plaza’s free outdoor movie series continues with How to Train Your Dragon. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, picnics and snacks, with local food trucks also on-site.

Memorial Day Celebration
