May Brings New Blooms And Cinco De Mayo

Fiesta may be over, but San Antonio is not exactly calling it a night. With Cinco de Mayo landing on Tuesday, the fun is still carrying into May with live jazz, outdoor movies, the Pan African Festival, local markets, a documentary screening, and community programs filling the week.

Pan-African Festival Weekend 2026 Returns to San Antonio With Community Events

The 11th Annual Pan African Festival Weekend returns with food, fashion, film screenings, cultural entertainment, marketplace vendors, community conversations, and special guest Anthony T. Browder.

The weekend concludes Sunday, May 3, with a film showing titled Walk on the River 2.0: The African Influence in San Antonio, TX, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 3455 Martin Luther King Dr. Tickets for this event may be purchased here.

Farmers & Artisans Market At Mission Marquee Plaza
Where: Mission Marquee Plaza, 3100 Roosevelt Ave. | When: Saturday, May 2 | 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Shop fresh local foods, handmade goods, pop up vendors, community resources, demos, and more at this free, pet friendly market hosted by the City of San Antonio World Heritage Office. For more information, click here.

Luca Outdoor Movie Screening
Where: Mission Marquee Plaza, 3100 Roosevelt Ave. | When: Saturday, May 2 | 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM

The City of San Antonio World Heritage Office will host a free outdoor screening of “Luca,” where families can enjoy entertainment, food trucks, free parking, and a pet friendly evening under the night sky.

Visitors are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and picnics. Movies begin shortly after dusk.

South Texans who donate blood before May 4 can enter for a chance to win a two night Texas getaway by using promo code “VINES” or “BEACH” when scheduling an appointment.

Appointments can be scheduled online at SouthTexasBlood.org or by calling 833-YOU-GIVE. Donors are asked to bring a valid photo ID, complete a brief health questionnaire, and participate in the donation process.

Historic Market Square will celebrate Cinco de Mayo with an evening event from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Visitors can enjoy the largest Mexican market in the U.S., which regularly features live music, folklórico dancers, local artisans, and authentic food throughout the year.

Jazz In The Garden

Enjoy an evening of live jazz at the Japanese Tea Garden, hosted by the San Antonio Parks Foundation and KRTU. Food and beverages will be available for purchase, and a suggested $5 donation supports the park and future events. For more, visit saparks.org.

Amazing Preservation Race

Join the Office of Historic Preservation for a downtown urban scavenger hunt where teams of four follow clues, complete challenges, and race to fill their passports before crossing the finish line. Admission is $30 per person. Register your team to participate.

African American Heritage Preservation Initiative: Story Collecting And Designation Information Session
