San Antonio’s skyline is glowing with purpose this week as several well-known landmarks light up in blue and green to mark Donate Life Month. The effort, led by South Texas Blood & Tissue, aims to raise awareness about the urgent need for organ, eye, and tissue donors.
From April 6 through April 10, buildings across the city are participating in the campaign, turning the skyline into a reminder of the lives that can be saved through donation.
Landmarks Lighting the Way
Participating locations include:
• Alamo Quarry Market Smokestacks
• Bexar County Courthouse
• North Star Mall Boots
• Pyramid Building
• Robert B. Green Campus
• Tobin Center for the Performing Arts (and Tobin Parking Garage)
• University Health Campus
Each illuminated building serves as a symbol of hope for those waiting on life-saving transplants and a tribute to donors who have already made that gift possible.
A Growing Need Across the Nation
The need for organ, eye, and tissue donors remains urgent. More than 100,000 people in the United States are currently waiting for a transplant, with a new person added to the list every eight minutes.
Tissue donation can help patients recovering from burns, undergoing joint repairs, or receiving heart valve replacements. In 2025, South Texas Blood & Tissue partnered with more than 100 hospitals and medical facilities across 25 counties, resulting in over 553 tissue donations.
Still, the number of registered donors falls short of the growing demand.
How Residents Can Join the Effort
Residents are encouraged to register or check their donor status through Donate Life Texas. Information will also be available at South Texas Blood & Tissue donor centers throughout April.
Community members can also support the campaign by sharing awareness and engaging with Donate Life Month efforts online.
