The San Antonio Juneteenth Parade Returns June 20, Beginning at Sam Houston High School and Ending at Comanche Park No. 2
San Antonio’s annual Juneteenth Parade will return for its 11th year on Saturday, June 20, bringing together residents from across the city to celebrate freedom, culture and community.
The parade will begin at 9 a.m. at Sam Houston High School, located at 4635 E. Houston Street, and travel through the city’s East Side before concluding at Comanche Park No. 2, located at 2600 Rigsby Avenue.
The event honors Juneteenth, the historic commemoration of June 19, 1865, when enslaved African Americans in Texas learned they were free more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.
This year’s parade will be hosted by Ronald Gordon of WSAN Radio and Keith Scott of KROV Radio, who will serve as masters of ceremony for the celebration.
The annual event has become a longstanding tradition in San Antonio, drawing families, community organizations, churches, schools and civic groups together in recognition of African American history and culture.
Residents are encouraged to line the parade route and participate in one of the city’s largest Juneteenth celebrations.
