Mark Cuban Partners With Donald Trump To Promote TrumpRx After Backing Kamala Harris

Billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban is defending his decision to appear with President Donald Trump at a healthcare affordability event, after critics questioned why a high profile Trump opponent would stand beside the president to promote TrumpRx.

The White House event centered on the expansion of TrumpRx, a government backed prescription drug website that is adding more than 600 generic medications. The site does not sell drugs directly. Instead, it directs users to partners and price comparison tools, including Amazon Pharmacy, GoodRx and Mark Cuban’s Cost Plus Drugs.

Cuban Says Lower Drug Prices Should Come Before Politics

Cuban, who endorsed former Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election and has been publicly critical of Trump, appeared at the event Monday alongside Trump, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Medicare and Medicaid administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz.

“Thank you for having me, Mr. President,” Cuban said during the event. “I think, other than you, I’ve been the biggest proponent of TrumpRx.com.”

Cuban said the issue of prescription drug costs reaches across party lines.

“Republicans want cheaper drugs, independents want cheaper drugs, Democrats want cheaper drugs,” Cuban said. “And together, I think we’re gonna do something special.”

That appearance drew criticism from some social media users who saw Cuban’s presence as a political contradiction, given his past opposition to Trump. Former Republican congressman Adam Kinzinger wrote on X that Cuban “should have walked off,” while others questioned whether Cuban had abandoned his previous criticism of the president.

Cuban appeared to respond to the criticism in a since deleted social media post that was viewed by multiple outlets.

“If anyone thinks I’m going to put politics ahead of helping Americans reduce their cost of healthcare and pharmaceuticals, they are f*cking idiot,” Cuban wrote.

He added that healthcare costs remain one of the country’s biggest affordability issues, especially for families worried about whether they can afford serious medical care or prescriptions.

“The goal is the goal. And that goal is to change healthcare,” Cuban wrote. “I’ve been saying it for years and will continue to work on this.”

Cuban later said he deleted the post because the profanity weakened his argument.

“Deleted the last post because I decided cursing didn’t make my point. It hurt it,” Cuban wrote.

Trump Jokes About Cuban’s 2024 Endorsement

The event also included a brief political exchange between Trump and Cuban. At one point, Trump joked that Cuban made a “big mistake” by supporting Harris in 2024.

After the event, a reporter asked Cuban whether he regretted backing Harris. Cuban declined to revisit the election.

“I’m not going into my politics at all,” Cuban said.

The TrumpRx expansion adds hundreds of generic medications, including commonly used drugs such as antibiotics, blood pressure medications and statins. Generic drugs make up about 90 percent of prescriptions in the United States, according to Reuters.

While the administration has promoted TrumpRx as a way to lower out of pocket drug costs, the platform is mainly aimed at people paying cash or comparing prices outside of insurance. Reuters reported that transactions through the site may not count toward insurance deductibles, meaning the savings could vary depending on a patient’s coverage.
