Kamala Harris Endorses Jasmine Crockett In Texas Senate Primary

Former Vice President Kamala Harris is throwing her support behind U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett in the final stretch of Texas’ Democratic primary for U.S. Senate, urging voters to show up before Election Day on March 3.

“Hi, it’s Kamala Harris, and I’m calling you to please go vote for my friend, Jasmine Crockett,” Harris says in a robocall released on behalf of Crockett’s campaign, according to The Texas Tribune.

Harris framed the race as a national turning point.

“Texas has the chance to send a fighter like Jasmine Crockett to the United States Senate. Jasmine has the experience and record to hold Donald Trump and his billionaire cronies accountable,” she said.

The former vice president added a clear rallying cry: “It’s time to turn Texas blue.”

Heated Primary Race Between Crockett and Talarico

Harris’ endorsement comes as Crockett faces Texas state Rep. James Talarico in what has become a closely watched and at times contentious Democratic primary.

While Talarico has outspent Crockett in the race, polling continues to show the congresswoman in the lead. The contest has not been without controversy. Talarico, who is white, faced backlash over an alleged offensive racial remark that he denied. Crockett’s electability has also been questioned in some corners, drawing criticism over perceived racial and gender bias.

The winner of Tuesday’s primary will advance to the general election to face the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate.

Harris and Crockett’s Political Ties

Harris’ support is rooted in a longstanding political and personal relationship.

In her memoir, “107 Days,” Harris described Crockett as one of the Democratic Party’s rising stars. As vice president, Harris mentored the 44 year old former civil rights attorney and public defender. When Harris became the Democratic presidential nominee in 2024, she elevated Crockett to primetime speaker status at the Democratic National Convention.

During that speech, Crockett grew emotional recounting her first meeting with Harris at the vice president’s residence shortly after being sworn into Congress.

“She turned to me and asked, ‘What’s wrong?’ Mind you, we never met, but she saw right through me. She saw the distress, and I immediately began crying,” Crockett shared. “The most powerful woman in the world wiped my tears and listened.”

Crockett recalled Harris telling her, “You are exactly where God wants you. Your district chose you because they believe in you, and so do I.”

Before entering the Senate race hours before the December 2025 filing deadline, Crockett said she consulted Harris about whether to run.

“I wasn’t going to make this decision without having some real conversations with the vice president,” Crockett told Native Land Pod. “And obviously, she didn’t just run in one state, she’s run in a lot of states, right? And to this day, she still remains a mentor and a friend and an auntie of sorts.”

If Crockett secures the Democratic nomination and wins in November, she would become the first African American elected to the U.S. Senate from Texas. Her victory would also mark the first time in U.S. history that more than two Black women serve concurrently in the Senate.
