Mayor Says “Military City USA” Should Not Host Ye as Alamodome Concert Faces Backlash
A planned July 4 concert by Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, at San Antonio’s Alamodome is now facing public pushback from Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones, who says the city-owned venue should not host the rapper because of his history of antisemitic remarks and hate speech.
Ye is scheduled to perform at 9 p.m. Saturday, July 4, at the Alamodome as part of his 2026 tour. The concert was announced earlier this month and quickly drew attention as one of the rapper’s few U.S. stops.
But over the weekend, Mayor Jones publicly called for the show to be canceled, saying San Antonio should not give a city-funded platform to an artist with Ye’s record of offensive comments.
“Military City USA should not host someone with a record of hate speech and antisemitic comments in a city-funded facility like our Alamodome—not ever, and certainly not on July 4th, our Nation’s 250th birthday,” Jones wrote in a statement shared on social media. “Standing up to antisemitism is exactly what it takes to achieve a more perfect Union.”
I support canceling the @kanyewest concert.

Military City USA should not host someone with a record of hate speech and antisemitic comments in a city-funded facility like our Alamodome—not ever, and certainly not on July 4th, our Nation’s 250th birthday.
Standing up to…
The controversy centers largely on the venue itself. The Alamodome is owned by the City of San Antonio, making the booking a matter of public concern for city leaders and residents.
Jones’ objection points not only to Ye’s past remarks, but also to the symbolism of hosting the show on Independence Day. July 4, 2026, marks the nation’s 250th birthday, a milestone the mayor says should reflect the city’s values.
The mayor’s statement adds pressure to what had already become a closely watched concert announcement. Ye’s tour has drawn national and international attention in recent months, with some appearances facing backlash over his past antisemitic statements and controversial public behavior.
Fans and Critics Clash Over July 4 Show
Reaction to the mayor’s statement has been sharply divided.
Some Ye fans criticized Jones for speaking out against the concert, arguing that the show could bring money and tourism into San Antonio. Others said the strong interest in tickets shows that many residents still want the performance to happen.
Critics also shifted the debate toward Jones’ campaign funding, alleging online that her stance is influenced by past support from Jewish and pro-Israel-aligned political groups.
😂😂 keep your mediocre mayor hands away from this

You’re the elected Mayor of a municipal government and an Air Force veteran who swore to defend the Constitution – the 1st Amendment exists. To even seek to influence the canceling of an artist’s performance may itself be a civil rights violation.

Shame on you. At this point I…
Online comments from supporters of the concert questioned why the city would object to Ye’s show when other controversial performers have appeared at major venues in the past.
But others praised Jones for taking a public stand, saying the concert should never have been booked at a city-owned facility. Critics of the show said Ye’s past comments should carry consequences, especially when the performance is tied to a public venue and a major national holiday.
I agree with the mayor. Kanye West is garbage. I wouldn't waste my money on his crap

Ye’s Past Comments Remain Central to Debate
Ye has faced widespread backlash in recent years for antisemitic statements and other offensive remarks. His comments have led to canceled appearances, severed business relationships and international scrutiny.
Earlier this year, Ye issued a public apology for antisemitic behavior in a full-page Wall Street Journal ad, saying he loved Jewish people and attributing some of his past actions to struggles with bipolar disorder.
Still, the controversy around his public record has continued to follow his tour. Reports have noted that Ye was blocked from entering the United Kingdom ahead of Wireless Festival, leading to cancellations and refunds. He was also cleared to perform in the Netherlands despite pressure from lawmakers and advocacy groups who opposed the shows.
Concert Still Listed for July 4
As of publication, the July 4 concert remains listed for the Alamodome. Ticketmaster lists the event as “Ye Live in San Antonio,” while the Alamodome website continues to show the event date as Saturday, July 4, 2026.
Additional event details, including parking, venue entry rules and box office information, are expected to be released closer to the concert date if the show proceeds.
For now, the concert remains scheduled, but the mayor’s statement has turned Ye’s San Antonio stop into a larger debate over public venues, free expression, city values and who should be allowed to take the stage inside a taxpayer-supported facility.
