Snoop Dogg Will Serve as a Producer on “Snoop,” the Upcoming Film Based on His Life, Career and Cultural Legacy
After years in the limelight as a multi-hyphenate rapper, producer, entrepreneur (and much more), Snoop has now reached the point in his career where his life experiences and achievements are being adapted for the big screen. The project was first announced back in 2022, and production on the film has only just begun.
“Snoop Dogg’s life and legacy make him one of the most exciting and influential icons in popular culture,” Donna Langley, film executive and chairwoman of Universal Pictures, said just after the project was first revealed.
A Groundbreaking Career and Lasting Legacy
Snoop, whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., has had a triumphant career, and has solidified himself as one of the most ubiquitous and long-established rappers in the game, selling over 35 million albums worldwide and marking himself in the history books at the very beginning of his career with his first album “Doggystyle,” which broke new ground as the first debut album of any artist to enter the Billboard charts at number 1, across all genres.
Since then, the Long Beach native has only continued to grow his prestige and has become one of the most legendary musicians and personalities alive today.
Cameron Jones Cast as Tupac Shakur
Backed by Universal, the film’s cast has already begun shaping up, with Jonathan Daviss (“Outer Banks”) filling the on-screen shoes of the titular rapper, alongside Myles Bullock (“BMF” and “Criminal Minds”) as Dr. Dre, Cameron Jones (“P-Valley” and “Panic”) as Tupac Shakur and Lauren London (“Without Remorse” and “ATL”) who will be playing Snoop’s late mother, Beverly Tate. Craig Brewer will direct the film (director of “Hustle & Flow”), and Snoop will feature as one of the film’s producers along with “8 Mile” producer Brian Grazer.
Snoop Dogg Takes Control of His Life Story
As a producer of the film, Snoop has the opportunity to depict his experiences through his own words, and will have total control over how his life story is portrayed on the big screen. Despite reaching such huge heights in the industry, the multi Grammy-nominated rapper has had a fairly tumultuous go of it, with countless setbacks and devastations that have defined his career path. The film is expected to trace these adversities and examine his ongoing legacy as one of the biggest cultural icons, both in and outside of the music industry.
“Snoop” Receives an Official Release Date
The Snoop Dogg biopic, simply titled “Snoop,” is set to hit theaters just a little under a year from now, August 6th, 2027.
