San Antonio Opens Free Outdoor Pools Memorial Day Weekend With “Jaws” Pool Party

City Pools Begin Preseason Hours May 23 with Free Weekend Swimming Across San Antonio

San Antonio families looking to beat the heat will soon have more places to cool off as the City of San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department prepares to open seven outdoor pools for preseason swimming beginning Memorial Day weekend.

Starting Saturday, May 23, select outdoor pools across the city will operate Saturdays and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. The pools will also be open Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, during the same hours.

Free Weekend Swimming Returns

The preseason outdoor pool lineup includes Elmendorf Lake Pool, Fairchild Pool, Heritage Pool, Kingsborough Pool, Lady Bird Johnson Pool, Spring Time Pool, and Woodlawn Lake Pool. Admission is free for all visitors.

In addition to recreational swimming, Woodlawn Lake Pool will offer lap swim and aqua fitness Tuesdays through Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

City officials said appropriate swimwear is required, and children under 10 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

“Jaws” Movie Night Planned at Woodlawn Lake

To kick off the season, the Parks and Recreation Department will host a free “Movie in the Pool” event featuring the classic thriller “Jaws” on Sunday, May 24 at 8:30 p.m. at Woodlawn Lake Pool.

The event is free and open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis with no registration required.

City splash pads are already open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and remain free to the public. The Atanacio Garcia Natatorium indoor pool also remains open year-round with paid admission.

Residents can find additional pool schedules and information through the City of San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department website.
