Beyoncé Becomes a Billionaire, Fulfilling Her “Black Bill Gates” Vision

From “Formation” to Forbes: Beyoncé Officially Joins the Billionaire Club

It was in her 2016 single “Formation” that American entertainer Beyonce proclaimed, “I just might be a Black Bill Gates in the making”. Now, the proclamation has come true. Global media company Forbes recently announced that the 44 year old Grammy winner and Houston native has been named a billionaire, the fifth musician to be named, joining the ranks of her husband Jay Z, Kanye West, Rihanna, and Taylor Swift.

Writer Matt Craig, in his 2025 article for Forbes, “Beyonce Is Now A Billionaire”, writes, “Beyoncé began building her business empire in earnest in 2010, when she founded Parkwood Entertainment and brought control of nearly every aspect of her career in-house. The company manages her career and produces all of her music, documentaries and concerts, fronting most of the production costs in order to capture more of the back-end economics… While Queen Bey has expanded her business empire into a handful of celebrity-friendly industries—including a hair care brand (Cécred), a whiskey label (SirDavis), and a clothing line (Ivy Park, discontinued in 2024)—most of her personal wealth comes from her music, by controlling the rights to her enormously valuable catalog and earning a massive income from her global tours.”

Beyonce has had a successful couple of years: following the release of her seventh album Renaissance, she embarked on a global tour, selling out shows across Europe and North America, grossing approx. $600 million dollars. The “Crazy In Love” songstress reinvented herself yet again with her groundbreaking country album Cowboy Carter, extending her record of selling out tours, becoming the highest grossing country tour by any artist, at $407.6 million dollars. But as many know, the fruits of her labor were planted decades earlier, growing up in Houston, Texas.

Beyonce started her career being the lead singer of the R&B/Pop girl group Destiny’s Child. Throughout their iterations, including Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, Letoya Luckett, and Latavia Roberson, the group has sold over 60 million records worldwide and was named by Billboard as one of the greatest female groups of all time, joining the likes of TLC and the Spice Girls. Following the release of her solo album Dangerously In Love in 2003, Beyonce has sold an impressive 200 million records worldwide and is highly regarded as the greatest Black performer within the last 25 years. Her selected accolades include 8 number one albums – the only female artist to have their first 8 albums debut at number one-, 35 Grammy Awards – the most of any musician, and holds the distinction of being named Time magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world in 2013, 2014, and 2023.
