No Kings Alliance Calls for Nationwide Mutual Aid Amid Expiring SNAP Benefits

No Kings, Mass Aid: The Power of Everyday San Antonians

As federal food assistance is set to expire November 1, the No Kings Alliance is calling on communities across the country to step up with local aid for those affected. The end of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will cut benefits for approximately 42 million Americans, including 16 million children and 8 million seniors.

The decision follows the Trump Administration’s refusal to continue funding the program, sparking outcry and a wave of legal action. Twenty-five states have filed lawsuits against the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), accusing the agency of unlawfully withholding food aid funding and violating federal obligations to low-income families.

The No Kings Alliance — the new rapid-response arm of the No Kings movement — is urging individuals and organizations to take part in mutual aid efforts while the lawsuits proceed. The group outlined three key ways to help:

Donate to a local food bank. Financial contributions can directly support families facing hunger.
Collect and distribute essentials. Shelters and food banks need food, clothing, and menstrual products; residents are encouraged to check what’s most needed locally.
Host a community give-back drive. Organize local food or supply drives through resources available at NoKings.org.

The organization plans to release ongoing opportunities for direct action every few weeks to sustain support networks and push back against what it describes as “authoritarian power grabs” by the administration.
