Netflix’s ‘Being Eddie’ Pays Tribute to Murphy

Eddie Murphy Gets Real About His Career in the New Netflix Documentary “Being Eddie,” Premiering Nov. 12

Eddie Murphy, one of Hollywood’s most transformative entertainers, opens up like never before in Being Eddie, Netflix’s upcoming documentary chronicling his meteoric rise and enduring influence. Premiering Nov. 12, the film explores the comedy icon’s evolution from teenage prodigy to multi-generational legend, all through his own lens.

“There is no one else like him. Nobody,” said director Angus Wall, a two-time Oscar winner. “He’s been famous longer than just about anyone alive, and he’s never lost who he is. He has survived it all with grace. How did he do that? What guides him? We chase all of these questions with him.”

Inside Eddie Murphy’s World

The documentary, described as an “intimate portrait,” traces Murphy’s four-decade journey through fame, creativity, and reinvention. Known for embodying multiple characters within a single film, Murphy finally plays himself—reflecting on what it means to entertain three generations of fans while maintaining his authenticity and humor.

“Eddie has played a lot of different characters over the last 40-plus years, but he has never played himself on screen before,” Wall explained. “He opens up his world and his heart, and I think people are going to really enjoy spending time with him.”

A Star-Studded Reflection

Featuring commentary from Arsenio Hall, Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Tracee Ellis Ross, Kevin Hart, Jamie Foxx, Ruth Carter, and Tracy Morgan, the film assembles an all-star cast of voices who’ve been shaped by Murphy’s brilliance. Each offers stories of his mentorship, comedic genius, and influence across film, television, and culture.

Being Eddie celebrates the man behind the characters—the visionary who reshaped comedy, challenged Hollywood norms, and continues to define what it means to be a legend.
