The Three-Team Trade Deal, Was Harrison Barnes a Good Choice?

Spurs Bolster Roster with Veteran Harrison Barnes in Three-Team Trade

The Spurs made ripples in the free agent market via a trade that brings veteran journeyman Harrison Barnes to the River City.

Barnes was acquired from the Sacramento Kings in a three-team deal that also includes the Chicago Bulls. In addition, the Spurs receive the right to swap first round picks with the Kings in 2031 and sends RaiQuan Gray to Chicago.

The NBA champion (Golden State ‘15) and 12-year vet has played in a total of 911 career games (850 starts) and holds averages of 14.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 31.6 minutes with Golden State, Dallas and Sacramento. Over the last three seasons, he has appeared in 222 consecutive games (all starts), which is the second-longest active streak in the NBA.

Barnes spent the last six seasons with Sacramento averaging 14.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.1 assists on 46% from the field, 38% from behind the arc and 81% shooting from the stripe.

With the addition of Barnes and the recently acquired Chris Paul, the Spurs add much needed veteran leadership to the leagues youngest team. His addition should give Pop a plethora of lineup options as Barnes can play and defend both the small and power forward positions.

In other Spurs news….

The team has waived Forward/Center Charles Bassey. Bassey was on a non-guaranteed contract with the Silver and Black and reportedly the team would like to re-sign the kid.
