Attorney Ben Crump, Kaepernick’s KYRC (Know Your Rights Camp) to Fund Second Autopsy for Trey Reed
Civil rights attorney Ben Crump announced that the family of Demartravion “Trey” Reed will move forward with a second, independent autopsy following his death, with costs fully covered by the Colin Kaepernick “Know Your Rights Camp Autopsy Initiative.”
The Reed family, still seeking answers after conflicting accounts and incomplete information from officials, is determined to uncover the truth once the state medical examiner releases Trey’s body.

“Trey’s death evoked the collective memory of a community that has suffered a historic wound over many, many years and many, many deaths. Peace will come only by getting to the truth,” said Crump. “We thank Colin Kaepernick for supporting this grieving family and the cause of justice and truth.”
The Know Your Rights Camp (KYRC) launched the autopsy initiative to provide families with access to independent forensic review at no cost, ensuring transparency in cases where trust in official findings has been undermined. For the Reed family, the support represents both an immediate resource and a wider call for accountability.
