Texas Public Opinion Research Found Gov. Greg Abbott Leading Gina Hinojosa by Three Points, Within the Survey’s Margin of Error
A new independent poll from Texas Public Opinion Research (TPOR) shows the 2026 Texas governor’s race tightening, with Democratic candidate Gina Hinojosa trailing Republican Gov. Greg Abbott by just three percentage points — a margin that falls within the survey’s stated 3.4% margin of error.
The poll found Abbott at 45% and Hinojosa at 42%, with 10% of voters remaining undecided. TPOR said the race has narrowed since its May survey, when Abbott led 46% to 41%.
Hinojosa Gains With Key Voting Blocs
According to the poll, Hinojosa leads Latino voters by 38 percentage points, which TPOR said represents a 40-point swing since its May poll. The survey also found Hinojosa leading moderates by 18 points and independents by five points.
TPOR said the latest findings build on recent Texas A&M/Siena and New York Times/Siena polls that also showed Hinojosa improving among Latino voters.

Candidate Focuses on Schools and Economy
In a statement released with the poll, Hinojosa said her campaign is centered on public education, lowering costs for Texans and opposing the expansion of data centers in communities.
“Texans are ready for change, and my plan is simple: save public schools, put money in your pocket, and end the Greg Abbott Corruption Tax,” Hinojosa said. “While Abbott still focuses on lining the pockets of his billionaire buddies and data center donors, I’m traveling the state hearing from Republicans, Independents, and Democrats that are ready to rebuild the American Dream in Texas with an economy that works for the people, strong neighborhood schools, and safe communities.”
Poll Follows Policy Rollout
The polling comes after Hinojosa spent the past two months unveiling policy proposals focused on neighborhood public schools, household affordability and data center development.
TPOR also reported Abbott’s support has declined since earlier polling while describing him as less popular than in previous surveys. The governor’s campaign had not publicly responded to the poll at the time of publication.
