Father’s Day 5K Brings Families Together for Health, Movement and Community
(Story by: Harold Huff III) – In recognition of Father’s Day, dads and their families woke up early and put on their running shoes for a special reason. The Tri-County Friendship Foundation hosted their Father’s Day 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, June 20 at Landa Park in New Braunfels.
The event was designed to be fun for the whole family. Fathers ran and walked the 5K course right alongside their children and loved ones. Whether participants were serious runners or simply looking for a fun way to celebrate the day, the event welcomed everyone who showed up.
“We wanted to show men that staying active is one of the greatest gifts they can give their families,” said Michael Clark, one of the event’s organizers. “This was about more than just a race; it was about building healthy habits and strong bonds.”
Prizes were awarded in several exciting categories. The father who finished with the fastest time took home a special award. There were also prizes for the oldest father and fastest youth who took part in the race, proof that age is just a number. Families who registered together competed for the fastest combined time, making it a friendly team challenge for everyone involved.
The morning was packed with more than just running and walking. Organizers provided snacks, giveaways, health information and refreshments for all participants after they crossed the finish line. It was the perfect way to celebrate dads while spending quality time outdoors together.
The Father’s Day 5K was part of a bigger effort to bring attention to men’s health and wellness in the community. Heart disease, high blood pressure, and other health issues affect men at high rates, and events like this one reminds fathers that taking care of their bodies matters for themselves and for the people who love them.
TCFF members in attendance were proud to bring the community together for a morning of movement, music, and lasting memories.
“This event was about the one person who always makes the sacrifice to put himself last, a father” stated Rodricus Harvey, TCFF Board Chair, as he addressed the race participants. “This moment in time we encourage all fathers to put themselves first and be the priority when it comes to health. The world needs you; your families need you; your friends need you, and we need you!”
