Floyd Mayweather Faces Felony Charges Over Alleged $200K Luxury Watch Purchase

Prosecutors Allege Floyd Mayweather Wrote $200K Bad Check For Luxury Watch In Las Vegas

Floyd Mayweather is facing felony charges in Las Vegas after prosecutors accused the retired boxing champion of writing a $200,000 check with insufficient funds to buy a luxury watch from a resale retailer.

The 49-year-old former five-division world champion was charged in April with theft and drawing or passing a check without sufficient funds with intent to defraud. The case stems from a December 2024 transaction at Gold and Beyond, a Las Vegas luxury resale store.

According to prosecutors, Mayweather allegedly wrote the check through a Wells Fargo account despite not having enough money, property or credit available to cover the amount.

Court records cited in multiple reports say the check was made payable to Gold and Beyond in connection with a watch purchase valued at $200,000. Mayweather was scheduled for an initial court appearance Monday, June 15, in Las Vegas Justice Court. He did not appear in person, but an attorney represented him during the proceeding.

The case is expected to return to court in September.

Neither Mayweather’s attorney nor his representatives immediately commented publicly on the allegations.

The felony case adds another legal matter to Mayweather’s post-retirement headlines. Earlier this year, Mayweather faced a lawsuit involving alleged unpaid rent at a Manhattan apartment. He has also been involved in disputes with jewelers and separately filed a lawsuit against a former business manager, alleging he was the victim of a long-running fraud scheme.

Mayweather, long known for turning wealth into part of his public brand, retired from professional boxing with a 50-0 record and remains one of the sport’s most recognizable figures.

Mayweather Still Expected For Greece Boxing Event

Despite the pending criminal case, Mayweather is still expected to appear in the “Battle of the Legends” event in Athens, Greece, later this month.

The full-contact exhibition match against kickboxer Mike Zambidis is scheduled for June 27.

For now, the criminal complaint remains an allegation. Mayweather has not been convicted in the case, and the charges will continue through the Clark County court system.
