Residents Have Until June 26 to Share Feedback on How Construction Alerts Should Be Delivered
For many San Antonio drivers, construction cones, lane closures and detours have become a daily part of life.
Whether it’s the ongoing Loop 1604 expansion, downtown street projects, major interstate work, or neighborhood improvements, residents across the city frequently take to social media and online forums to voice frustration about traffic backups, confusing traffic patterns, and seemingly endless construction timelines. Recent online discussions have included complaints about traffic delays along Interstate 35, concerns over new interchange designs, and frustration from residents who say construction projects often seem to appear without enough warning.
City Launches Survey on Construction Communications
Now, the City of San Antonio is asking residents how they would like to receive information about nearby construction projects.

The City Council is conducting a public survey to better understand how residents prefer to receive updates about road work, infrastructure projects, lane closures, detours, and other construction-related impacts. City officials say the feedback will help improve how construction alerts and project updates are shared with the community.
The survey takes approximately four minutes to complete and is open through Friday, June 26, 2026, at 5 p.m. CST.
A Growing Challenge in a Growing City
The survey comes as San Antonio continues to experience rapid growth and major infrastructure investment across multiple parts of the city. Residents on the Far West Side have increasingly complained about worsening traffic congestion, while drivers throughout the region routinely encounter lane closures tied to highway expansion projects and downtown improvements.
Several high-profile construction projects have also drawn criticism over lengthy timelines. Downtown’s South Alamo reconstruction project lasted more than three years and affected businesses, tourists, and daily commuters before reopening earlier this year. Business owners along construction corridors have repeatedly called for better communication and more timely updates from public agencies.
Recent crashes involving construction zones on Interstate 35 have further highlighted the challenges drivers face navigating work zones throughout the region. In some cases, traffic delays have stretched for miles and lasted for hours.
How to Participate
Residents can complete the survey through June 26 and provide input on how they would like to receive construction notifications, whether through social media, navigation apps, email alerts, text messages, or other methods. The City says responses will help shape future communication efforts and improve transparency around construction projects.
Residents can take the survey here. Those with questions about the survey may contact the City at Engagement@SanAntonio.gov.
As construction continues across San Antonio, city leaders hope the feedback will help reduce one of residents’ biggest complaints: not necessarily the construction itself, but being caught off guard by it.
