Muertos Fest Opens Applications for 2026 Festival Participants

Muertos Fest Opens Applications for 2026 Altars and Procession Participants

Applications are now open for altar creators and procession participants for the 14th annual Muertos Fest, scheduled for Oct. 23-25, 2026, at Hemisfair in downtown San Antonio.

Festival organizers are inviting artists, families, schools and community groups to honor loved ones by creating traditional Día de los Muertos altars, also known as ofrendas. Participants may apply to build either large-scale or smaller altars.

Applications are also being accepted for dancers, musicians and cultural organizations interested in joining the festival’s annual procession, one of the event’s signature traditions.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with decisions typically made within one to two weeks. Space is limited and usually fills by Sept. 1, so early applications are encouraged.

Now entering its 14th year, Muertos Fest has grown into one of the nation’s largest Día de los Muertos celebrations, drawing thousands of visitors each year to celebrate remembrance, culture and community.
