Voting Rights Attacked in Recent SCOTUS Ruling

Voting Rights Act Ruling Hands Black Voters Another Major Blow Under Trump

The Black community suffered a severe blow under the Trump administration and specifically from the Supreme Court. Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act (VRC) was gutted by a racist decision.

The VRA was originally used to protect Black voters but is now being used to deny Blacks voting power.

Supreme Court Decision Rewrites Section 2 Of The Voting Rights Act

According to the Brennon Center, the Supreme Court struck down Louisiana’s congressional map and substantially rewrote Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, undermining longstanding protections against racial discrimination.” The ruling in Louisiana vs. Callais is to further the objective of destroying the Voting Rights Act.

This decision will allow racial political gerrymandering and further encourage Republican gerrymandering. The Voting Rights Act was passed in 1965 after years of White racism that was used to keep Blacks from voting.

Why Louisiana’s Black Voters Were At The Center Of The Case

Louisiana has one of the highest percentages of Black people in America, with African Americans making up over one-third of the state’s population. We know why they don’t want to give an underrepresented population a voice!

The Supreme Court in this case struck down a congressional map from a group of voters who described themselves as “non-African American,” in order to avoid being called “White,” They challenged the map as “unconstitutional racial gerrymandering,” a reversed scheme used by white supremacists.

Court’s Conservative Majority Blocks Majority Black District Map

By a vote of 6-3, the justices upheld a lower court that barred the state from using the map. The map was created to give a majority-Black district a congressional seat.

This attack is part of the racist plot to prevent the Republicans from losing in November.

We know that Trump and his blind followers will every method, legal or illegal, to prevent Trump from losing power. They won’t protect maps that protect Black voting rights but did allow the Texas governor to create a map using a redistricting scheme that stinks of racism and political gerrymandering, Supreme Court justice Samuel Alito led the racist charge. Alito concluded, “That map is an unconstitutional gerrymander, and its use would violate the plaintiffs’ constitutional rights.”

With his Black skin and a White mask mentality, Justice Clarence Thomas supported Alito’s opinion, suggesting that the Supreme Court “should never have interpreted Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 to effectively give racial groups an entitlement to roughly proportional representation.” But, Texas did just that when Gregg Abbott created a political gerrymandered map to help racists gain control of congress.

Civil Rights Leaders Say The Court Betrayed Black Voters

NAACP President Derrick Johnsom said, “The Supreme Court betrayed Black voters, they betrayed America, and they betrayed our democracy.” President Trump thanked Justice Samuel Alito for this racist decision.

According to the Campaign Legal Center, “A 6-3 U.S. Supreme Court decision . . . has eviscerated Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act (VRA) and opened the door for states to enact discriminatory voting maps and laws.”

Reverse Discrimination Argument Becomes Central To The Case

Phillip Callais, a White resident of the district in question, used the old racist argument of “reverse discrimination,” which falsely contends that Whites are being oppressed by Blacks. The Court has literally struck down a congressional map that finally allowed Black voters in Louisiana to have the opportunity to elect candidates of their choice.

Trump and his racist monsters have opened up a front in the war against Black people. Black voters in Louisiana, who have been treated like dogs by White politicians for years, have been fighting for fairness in the drawing of congressional district lines.

Justice Elena Kagan grabbed the racist ruling by the throat in writing, “The Voting Rights Act ushered in awe-inspiring change, bringing this Nation closer to fulfilling the ideals of democracy and racial equality. And it has been repeatedly, and overwhelmingly, reauthorized by the people’s representatives in Congress. Only they have the right to say it is no longer needed — not the Members of this Court? I dissent, then, from this latest chapter in the majority’s now-completed demolition of the Voting Rights Act.”

Clarence Thomas’ Record Draws Renewed Scrutiny

Clarence Thomas is a twisted man that has repeatedly voted against his own people. Thomas voted against fairness under the VRA. According to CNN investigative reports on Clarence Thomas, “His entire judicial philosophy is at war with his own biography, . . . He’s arguably benefited from affirmative action every step of the way.”

Ironically, in the case of Grutter v. Bollinger, a case in which I helped to write a brief for, Justice O’Connor wrote in 2003, “We expect that 25 years from now, the use of racial preferences will no longer be necessary to further the interest approved today.”

She was sadly mistaken as white supremacy has a long way to go before it can be defeated. White supremacists on the court are actually using her words to justify continuing with oppressive policies and judicial practices and apply them to the redistricting of maps. How the hell would she have known that? Her comment is being used to suppress the Black vote by claiming that racism magically disappeared.
