City of San Antonio Activates Cold Weather Shelters Ahead of Freeze

The City of San Antonio Is Opening Temporary Overnight Shelters as Freezing Temperatures Return This Weekend

As freezing temperatures are expected to return this weekend, the City of San Antonio will open temporary overnight shelter beginning Friday afternoon to protect neighbors experiencing homelessness from dangerous winter weather.

According to city officials, temporary overnight shelter will open at 3 p.m. Friday, January 30, and remain available through 8 a.m. Sunday, February 1, 2026. The action comes as the National Weather Service forecasts overnight temperatures dropping below freezing starting Friday night.

The City’s shelter activation will operate alongside services provided by six local homeless response agencies, expanding capacity during the coldest hours of the weekend.

Outreach and 24-Hour Assistance

The City’s Homeless Outreach Team and Community Connections Hotline will operate 24 hours a day beginning at 8 a.m. Friday. Residents who encounter unsheltered individuals can call 210-207-1799 to connect people with shelter options, transportation, and cold-weather supplies. Outreach teams will also assist individuals who decline shelter by providing survival supplies and resource connections.
