Healy Murphy Park Reopens as San Antonio’s First Street Art Park

Eastside’s Healy Murphy Park Transformed with Murals, Lighting, and New Design

Healy Murphy Park has officially reopened following a major renovation that transforms the longtime Eastside gathering place into San Antonio’s first street art park.

The project, funded by the 2023 District 2 Capital Improvement Program, was shaped through a collaboration between the District 2 Office, Parks & Recreation Department, Arts & Culture Department, and the San Antonio Street Art Initiative (SASA). SASA played a key role in designing the park and facilitating the artist selection process.

“Healy Murphy Park’s transformation is a testament to what’s possible when art, community, and public space come together,” said D2 Councilman Jalen McKee-Rodriguez. “This park isn’t just a place to gather, but a living canvas that reflects the creativity, resilience, and beauty of our Eastside. I’m proud that District 2 continues to lead in redefining what public spaces can be when we invest in people and imagination.”

The reimagined park features ten original murals created by local artists including Manola and Maria, Scotch!, Kat Cadena, Mauro de la Tierra, Angelica Sanchez (Myth), Josiah Harris, Ana Hernandez-Burwell, Alannah Tiller, Albert Gonzalez, and ‘Deleted’. Each mural was designed to reflect the creativity and identity of the Eastside community.

Beyond the art, the renovation includes updated landscaping and lighting, providing a safer and more inviting space for residents. Originally established in the 1970s, Healy Murphy Park has long served as a hub for community activity, and its new design makes art a central feature of the public space for the first time in the city.

The project is part of a larger effort to expand and activate green spaces across District 2. Recent investments have included Village Row Park, built in 2023, with additional parks planned under the 2025 and 2026 Capital Improvement Programs. Together, these projects aim to increase access to art, outdoor space, and community amenities across San Antonio’s Eastside.
