BiteSight: The Black-Owned App That Just Outranked Uber Eats

Black-Owned Food Delivery App Surpasses Uber Eats After TikTok Boost

A Black-owned food delivery app called BiteSight has rocketed to the top of the Apple App Store charts, outranking giants like Uber Eats and Domino’s after a single TikTok video went viral. The app’s founder, Lucious McDaniel IV, credits the surge to his sister’s TikTok, which featured the app and gained over three million views within 24 hours.

Downloads for BiteSight increased by more than 700% overnight, pushing the app to the number 18 overall ranking on the App Store and number 2 in the Food & Beverage category. BiteSight currently holds a 4.9-star rating based on over 1,200 user reviews.

How BiteSight Works

BiteSight blends short-form social videos with food ordering. Users can scroll through engaging food videos and place orders directly from what they see. The app’s design is intentionally social, aiming to make food delivery interactive and community-driven rather than transactional.

Lucious McDaniel described BiteSight as “TikTok meets DoorDash”, with a goal to make food delivery fun and culturally connected, while eliminating hidden fees common with mainstream delivery platforms.

Backed by Investors and Community

BiteSight has raised $1.5 million in pre-seed funding, backed by investors such as Y Combinator, SurgePoint Capital, and former executives from leading tech companies. The app first launched in New York City, and users across the country are now requesting expansion to cities like Houston, Washington D.C., and Atlanta.

Lucious McDaniel has confirmed that these cities are on the expansion list, driven by community demand and support.

A Model for Black Tech Success

BiteSight’s rise is a testament to the power of community, innovation, and organic growth. Without any paid advertising, the app gained national attention purely through social media and word of mouth.

This success story underscores the potential for Black-owned tech ventures to compete with established industry leaders when supported by authentic community engagement and culturally relevant innovation.
