Checks No Longer Balanced— Tracking the Completion of Project 2025

SCOTUS Ruling on Birthright Citizenship Signals Acceleration of Trump’s Project 2025— 50% Complete

In a ruling that experts warn could permanently reshape the balance of power in the United States, the Supreme Court has ruled that federal judges no longer have the authority to block presidential executive orders, removing a key constitutional check on executive power.

The 6-3 decision comes as part of a broader authoritarian-style consolidation of power by President Donald Trump, and analysts say it directly advances the agenda of Project 2025—a far-right blueprint for reshaping American governance, seemingly being implemented more into our government day by day.

What This Means: The SCOTUS Birthright Citizenship Ruling

Here’s what happened: Trump signed an executive order stating that children born in the U.S. to two undocumented immigrants would no longer be granted citizenship.

A federal judge blocked the order, stating it was unconstitutional and could not take effect without judicial review. But now, the Supreme Court says federal judges don’t have that power— a move that removes one of the final guardrails between presidential authority and the Constitution itself.

And why would the Supreme Court do that? Critics say the answer is simple: the Court is now compromised. Three of the justices who voted in favor were appointed by Trump, and three more by the Bush administrations. All six voted along party lines, essentially ruling against their own institutional authority.

A part of Project 2025 is to consolidate executive power to favor right-wing policies, cementing unchecked executive rule. This ruling takes it a giant step further by including those powers of the judicial branch.

What Else Has Been Touched by the Trump Administration?

As we’re into the first year of President Trump’s second term, several significant policy changes have been implemented. Many of these actions closely reflect the policy framework outlined in Project 2025. Here’s what changed so far:

Dismantling DEI
Through a series of executive orders, Trump has eliminated federal diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, terminating DEI offices, canceling grants, and pressuring schools and businesses to follow suit.

Free Press & Speech Crackdown on Universities and Media
Trump has threatened to strip significant funding from elite universities like Harvard and Columbia, targeting institutions he claims are hostile to conservative views.

The Trump administration has taken steps to restrict access for certain journalists and outlets to White House events and press briefings. The FCC is investigating PBS and NPR over alleged advertising violations, pushing to defund public broadcasting entirely.

Justice Department Interference
Recently, Trump fired three DOJ prosecutors handling Jan. 6 cases—an attack on the independence of the Justice Department and a message to career prosecutors nationwide.

Seizing Power from Independent Agencies
Trump now requires agencies like the SEC, FEC, and FCC to submit all major decisions to the White House, a move that collapses the line between executive and regulatory power.

Dismantling the Department of Education
On March 20, Trump ordered the closure of the U.S. Department of Education, throwing programs like Pell Grants and student protections into uncertainty. Lawsuits are ongoing.

Student Aid Cuts
Trump has slashed Pell Grants and federal student loans, tightening eligibility and reducing access for millions of low-income students.

Defunding Small Business Support
The administration cut all grants for minority- and women-owned small businesses, despite court injunctions. These cuts have stalled economic development in underserved communities.

Democracy on the Chop’In Block

The SCOTUS birthright ruling gives us a look into our future with the Trump administration. By weakening its own power and expanding Trump’s reach, the Court has helped accelerate Project 2025, a campaign to rewrite American governance.
