More Candidates Than Passion: What Voters Are Saying

Mild Opinions, Major Decisions Ahead

As the local calendar moves forward, there appears to be low voter interest , in the upcoming election, as we are closing in on the final day of this cycle.

After having reviewed much of the national politics, we ventured into checking out the local pulse for the Mayoral race and the competition for seats on the city council.

There’s twenty-seven candidates, for the mayor’s seat, which suggests the possibility of a runoff, once all votes are tabulated.

Input From a Variety of Citizens

In seeking input, from a variety of citizens, we heard from supporters, for Gina Ortiz Jones, who were pleased with her concern for Seniors, and a mild semblance of support for John Courage.

We also heard from restaurant workers, who were supporters of Manny Pelaez, a few others were supporters of Beto Altamirano.

Additionally, a community Activist related that she supported Melissa Cabello Havrda, based upon her having previously worked with her earlier campaign.

One retiree, who was working part -time, responded that she had “no preference” for a particular candidate for Mayor.

City Council Sentiments

Upon inquiry, among those sampled for City Council seats, no one responded for Districts 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 9. The remaining responses are as follows:

District 2: Heavy interest, from Senior Citizens for incumbent Councilman Jalen McKee-Rodriguez and additional interest by other citizens for newcomer Carla Joy Cisco, making this race a toss-up and a possible runoff.

District 5: Strong support expressed for Terri Castillo.

District 8: High level of support for Ivalis Meza Gonzalez, due to experience at City Hall, having previously worked on the staff of outgoing Mayor Ron Nirenberg.

District 10: High marks were received, from contacted citizens, for Marc Whyte, as he has reportedly been very responsive to his constituents.

Early voting concluded on Tuesday and may hold some additional views to the developing races in the 2025 municipal elections. Election Day is May 3rd from 7am-7pm at over 300 locations. Find a polling location HERE.

Hopefully, all eligible voters will exercise their right and go out and VOTE.
