Sherri Shepherd Honored With Hollywood Walk of Fame Star

Shepherd Has an Extensive Resume From Her Thirty Years Being an Actor, Comedian, Talk Show Host, and More

Sherri Shepherd has officially joined Hollywood’s most celebrated names with her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The ceremony, held Monday (Nov. 3), honored the actress, comedian, and talk show host for her 30-year career spanning television, film, and stage.

Best known for her work on The View, her hit daytime talk show Sherri, and appearances in productions such as Guess Who, 30 Rock, and The Jamie Foxx Show, Shepherd reflected on a long journey marked by both struggle and resilience.

“I’m always thanking God, and knowing my why,” she said during her acceptance speech. “I always believe God didn’t give me this talent for it to just fall on the ground and die. I just knew it was for something, but it took 30 years for me to realize it, because I wasn’t ready.”

Shepherd spoke candidly about her early hardships, recalling times when she was evicted from apartments and forced to sleep in her car while pursuing her dream in Los Angeles. “I would look out the window every day and dream. I would see the cast of Beverly Hills 90210 going inside the clubs, and I would just sit there and dream about one day I could be a part of this community,” she said.

She credited performing nightly stand-up sets at The Comedy Store as the lifeline that kept her motivated during those years of struggle.

Among those honoring Shepherd were her close friends Tyler Perry and Niecy Nash, both of whom praised her unrelenting spirit and luminous energy.

“Name another person who has been on Broadway, written books, hosted a talk show, been a cohost on The View—you name it,” said Perry. “There are many people on the planet that were sent here to bring light, and then there are other people who are here to be light. Sherri is a person who is light.”

Nash reflected on their shared beginnings as aspiring actresses. “I remember us being young girls, dreaming in my mama’s back room about all of the success we wanted,” she said. “We were best friends, but we were each other’s competition. Sherri started booking jobs back-to-back, and when I asked how, she said, ‘Girl, I just go in there and act like you.’”

Shepherd’s 20-year-old son, Jeffrey Tarpley Jr., joined her at the ceremony, where she lovingly called him “my baby.” With her star now cemented on Hollywood Boulevard, Shepherd’s story stands as a testament to perseverance, faith, and finding purpose through adversity.
