Texas Mom Born Without Arms Inspires Through Motherhood

Kashmiere Culberson, a Dallas mother born without arms, has developed her own way of caring for her 1-year-old daughter, ZaNova.

Culberson was born with bilateral phocomelia, a rare condition affecting limb development. She uses her feet to feed ZaNova, change her diapers, dress her, style her hair and put her to bed.

Culberson credits her independence to her parents, who encouraged her to try things on her own. Now an entrepreneur and content creator, she hopes to instill that same confidence in her daughter. ZaNova was born in June 2025 at Methodist Dallas Medical Center—the same hospital where Culberson was born in 1997. Culberson spent two months on bed rest before giving birth.

In 2026, she reunited with Rose Kraus, the nurse who helped deliver her nearly three decades earlier. Kraus met ZaNova during the emotional reunion.

Culberson described her daughter as “an angel sent from heaven” and said she wants her to grow up strong and independent.
