“I’m Still Yo Mama” Comes to the Carver Community Cultural Center Aug. 2, Starring Donna Carroll Crockett as a Mother Living with Alzheimer’s.
A powerful stage production highlighting the realities of Alzheimer’s disease and the importance of family caregiving is coming to the Carver Community Cultural Center next month.
“I’m Still Yo Mama,” starring acclaimed actress Donna Carroll Crockett, will be presented Sunday, Aug. 2, at 3 p.m. at the Carver Community Cultural Center, 226 N. Hackberry St.
One-Woman Production
The one-woman production tells the emotional story of a mother living with Alzheimer’s disease, offering audiences a heartfelt look at the confusion, humor, resilience and love that often accompany the illness. Through Crockett’s performance, the play reminds audiences that while memories may fade, a person’s identity, dignity and humanity remain.
With the theme, “Alzheimer’s: When You Can’t Remember That You Forgot,” the production encourages conversations about dementia, caregiving and the challenges faced by millions of families across the country.
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, millions of Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, with that number expected to rise as the nation’s population ages. Family caregivers often face emotional, physical and financial challenges while caring for loved ones affected by memory loss.
Entertaining While Educating
The production seeks to educate as well as entertain, using theater to increase awareness and compassion for those living with Alzheimer’s while recognizing the experiences of caregivers who support them every day.
Tickets are $32 and are available for purchase through the Carver Community Cultural Center. Doors open before the 3 p.m. performance on Aug. 2.
