Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2026 Inductees Include Sade, Luther Vandross, Wu-Tang Clan
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has revealed its 2026 induction class, bringing together a wide-ranging group of artists across genres, eras, and cultural influence.
The announcement was made Monday during American Idol, confirming that Sade, Luther Vandross, and Wu-Tang Clan will be among this year’s inductees into one of music’s most recognized institutions.
Joining them in the Early Influence category are Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, and Fela Kuti, recognizing their foundational impact on music and culture.
Full List of Performer Inductees
Eight artists were selected in the performer category for 2026:
• Phil Collins
• Billy Idol
• Iron Maiden
• Joy Division / New Order
• Oasis
• Sade
• Luther Vandross
• Wu-Tang Clan
This year’s class brings a total of 18 inductees across all categories, including contributors like Rick Rubin and Celia Cruz.
First Ballot Wins and Long-Awaited Recognition
Vandross and Wu-Tang Clan both secured induction on their first appearance on the ballot, while Sade entered the Hall on her second try.
For artists in the Early Influence category, this marked a breakthrough moment. Queen Latifah and MC Lyte had not previously been nominated, while Fela Kuti had been nominated twice before finally earning induction.
Notable Snubs and Fan Vote Outcome
Despite strong support, several high-profile artists did not make the final cut. Mariah Carey, New Edition, and Lauryn Hill were among those left out.
New Edition, in particular, led the Rock Hall’s fan vote, but the result did not translate into enough support from the official voting body to secure induction.
Ongoing Debate Over Genre Representation
The announcement arrives amid continued debate about what belongs in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Gene Simmons of KISS recently reiterated his long-standing view that hip-hop should not be included, arguing the Hall should remain focused on rock music. His comments followed the induction of Outkast and drew pushback from figures like Chuck D, who have defended hip-hop’s place in the institution.
Iron Maiden’s long-awaited induction this year addresses one of Simmons’ previous criticisms, as he had repeatedly called for the band’s inclusion.
Ceremony Set for November in Los Angeles
The 2026 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony is scheduled for November in Los Angeles. Unlike recent years, the event will not air live but will instead be broadcast in December on ABC and Disney+.
With a lineup that spans soul, hip-hop, rock, and global influence, attention now turns to whether fans will see live performances from artists like Sade, Wu-Tang Clan, or Queen Latifah on one of music’s biggest stages.
