Community Voices Gather at the Coliseum

A diverse group of citizens, elected officials, and community organizations came together at the Freeman Coliseum to discuss future plans for the Frost Bank Center, the Freeman Coliseum grounds, and the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo. The gathering, hosted by Precinct 4 County Commissioner Tommy Calvert Jr., focused on the Spurs’ anticipated relocation and how District 2 can repurpose these significant venues.

Suggestions ranged from including the Willow Springs Golf Course to adding shops, restaurants, and community-focused amenities to revitalize the area.

One citizen pointed out that private financing could be a viable option, citing a West Coast NBA team owner who funded their facility independently. The speaker emphasized the need for a renovated site that includes economic drivers like retail and dining options to contribute to community growth.

Residents recalled unfulfilled promises by past City Council members regarding development east of Salado Creek, noting the need for accountability and transparency in future planning efforts.

Next Town Hall Scheduled for February 1st

For those unable to attend the first discussion, a second town hall is scheduled for Saturday, February 1, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Residents are encouraged to join and contribute their ideas for the future of District 2’s key venues.
