Free Adoptions at SAACS This Saturday

San Antonio Shelter Pushes for 90% Lifesaving Milestone with Free Adoptions

San Antonio Animal Care Services (SAACS) is calling on the community to help reach a major lifesaving milestone as the fiscal year comes to a close.

To wrap up National Dog Week, SAACS will host a $0 adoption event on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at its shelter, located at 4710 State Highway 151.

The goal: place at least 100 pets into homes in a single day.

Chasing the 90% Mark

The shelter is within reach of hitting a 90% placement rate for September, meaning nine out of ten animals would leave the shelter alive through adoption, rescue, or transfer. Staff say that milestone would make this one of the strongest years yet for lifesaving efforts.

Beyond Dogs Alone

Though National Dog Week puts dogs in the spotlight, SAACS is making cats and kittens part of the event as well. Every animal adopted is sterilized, vaccinated, and microchipped with lifetime registration.

Help That Stays With You

Adoptions also include free lifetime access to professional trainers provided by the shelter. The added support gives families extra confidence as they welcome new pets into their homes.

All week, SAACS has been sharing stories of pets who found their forever families. Now, staff say the focus shifts to the weekend. “This weekend could make all the difference,” the shelter noted, encouraging San Antonians to step up and help push past the 90% goal.
