Shots Fired from Rooftop Near ICE Building
Homeland Security officials say two detainees were killed and another critically injured after a shooter opened fire from a rooftop onto a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas on Wednesday morning. Authorities said the shooter then turned the rifle on himself and died at the scene.
The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that the attack unfolded around 6:20 a.m. when a van carrying detainees entered the ICE sallyport. “The shooter fired indiscriminately at the ICE building, including at a van in the sallyport where the victims were shot,” the agency said in a release.
ANTI-ICE Message Found on Ammunition
The FBI reported that bullets found at the scene carried anti-ICE messaging written in marker.
“Early evidence that we’ve seen from rounds that were found near the suspected shooter contain messages that were anti-ICE in nature,” said Joe Rothrock, special agent in charge of the Dallas field office.
Kash Patel, head of the agency, posted a photo of one bullet showing the words “ANTI-ICE.” The investigation is ongoing, with federal and local authorities working to establish a motive.
Witness Describes Chaos
Witness Edwin Cardona, an immigrant from Venezuela, told reporters he and his son had just arrived for an appointment inside the ICE building when gunfire erupted. He said ICE agents quickly moved families and staff into a secure area until the all-clear was given.
“They explained there was an active shooter, and they kept us safe until we could reunite,” Cardona said.
Suspect Identified
Law enforcement identified the gunman as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn. Officials declined to publicly release further details, citing the ongoing investigation.
