Lil Wayne Says He’s ‘Devastated’ by Not Being Chosen to Perform at the Super Bowl

Kendrick Lamar Announced as 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Headliner

Recently, the NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation announced Kendrick Lamar as the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime show headliner; an announcement that sparked mixed reactions on social media. While some fans rejoiced the “They Not Like Us” rapper’s appointment, others questioned the football conglomerate’s choice.

Fans Expected Lil Wayne in New Orleans

Super Bowl LIX will be held in New Orleans, leading many to believe that local favorite Lil Wayne would be chosen for the halftime show. However, there is no established tradition of selecting a performer from the host city. Despite the outcry from fans and celebrities such as Cam’ron, Nicki Minaj, and Master P, the NFL and its partners chose Kendrick Lamar instead.

Lil Wayne Expresses Heartbreak Over Super Bowl Halftime Snub

Lil Wayne has shared his feelings after not being chosen for the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show, calling the experience “devastating.” “That one hurt, I ain’t gon’ lie,” he said. With the event taking place in his hometown of New Orleans, Wayne had hoped for the opportunity but was passed over in favor of Kendrick Lamar. He added, “I really thought this was it,” but remains grateful to his fans for their support.

Lil Wayne’s Desire to Perform at the Super Bowl

In the past, Wayne has made it clear that performing at the Super Bowl, especially in New Orleans, would be a dream come true. “It’s more than a show, it’s a moment,” he said in earlier interviews. Despite the setback, Wayne emphasized his deep connection to the city and his desire to still represent it on the world’s biggest stage.

NFL’s Selection Process and Super Bowl Performances

The NFL’s decision to select Kendrick Lamar was rooted in his popularity and cultural influence, with many seeing it as a continuation of the league’s efforts to bring more diverse and meaningful voices to the halftime stage. “They made their choice,” Wayne admitted, acknowledging Lamar’s talent but also expressing his disappointment at being overlooked for what he felt could have been a defining moment in his career.

Lil Wayne’s Response and What’s Next

Though he is “heartbroken” by the decision, Lil Wayne remains committed to his music, telling fans, “This ain’t the end of the world.” He continues to work on new projects and expresses gratitude for the love and support he’s received from fans following the news. While this may not be his Super Bowl moment, Wayne assures his followers that he’s still going strong.

MTV VMAs Return to Form with Biggest Audience in 4 Years

Wednesday night’s MTV Video Music Awards achieved its biggest audience in four years, claiming over 4 million viewers. Making the most of a live telecast across 13 Paramount-owned networks and two encore presentations, the annual event saw an audience uptick of 8% compared to 2023.

Paramount suggests that much of the surge had to do with popularity on social media boosted by a record-breaking night from Taylor Swift.

Beyoncé’s Whiskey ‘SirDavis’

Behind the Barrel: Beyonce, Uncle Nearest, and the Enduring African American Pioneers of Whiskey

Recently, entertainer and businesswoman Beyonce Knwoles-Carter has launched her own line of whiskey, SirDavis. In a recent interview with GQ, the 43-year old Grammy winner spoke about how her love for whiskey started and what she hoped to accomplish in this exciting new venture. “I love everything about whiskey. The color, the smell, the way it dances in the glass.… And I love the stories that come with it. Every bottle has a history…. I am here to change that old narrative. I’m here to focus on the quality…  I’ve learned that true success isn’t about leaning on a name; it’s about crafting something genuine, something that can hold its own. It’s not about being perfect. It’s about being revolutionary.”

Knowles-Carter’s recent album Cowboy Carter has ignited a discourse on the African American influence in country music. Through a 27-song cycle, she pays tribute to the progenitors of the genre and pushes the genre forward by introducing audiences to present Black country artists.

Named as a tribute to the musician’s great grandfather who made his living in the distillery business, Knowles-Carter also mentioned a sentiment that illuminated the often overlooked legacy of the famous whiskey brand Jack Daniels.

“Making liquor has been in Southern families like mine for many generations”, Knowles says, “the Jack Daniel’s famous recipe? That was heavily influenced by a Black man named Nathan “Nearest” Green. He was a former slave who became Jack Daniel’s master distiller.”

Writer Aaron Randle, in his 2024 article for History.com, “How an Enslaved Man Helped Jack Daniel Develop His Famous Whiskey”, writes, “Researchers are discovering that the role enslaved people played in America’s early whiskey-making went beyond manual labor like gathering grain and building barrels…While working as a laborer on Call’s farm, Daniel took an ardent interest in Call’s distillery. Eventually, after much badgering from the young Daniel, Call introduced him to [Nathan ‘Nearest’] Green, who he called ‘the best whiskey maker that I know of’…he instructed the enslaved man to teach the young boy his distilling magic.”

Green’s legacy was not forgotten entirely. His great-great granddaughter Fawn Weaver has continued his legacy through Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey where she has become one of the first Black female whiskey blenders in America. Between Weaver and now Beyonce continuing to pave the way, they are blazing a trail while still paying homage, ushering in a new avenue for women in whiskey.

“I think a lot more women would love it if they tasted it,” Knowles-Carter continues, “whiskey isn’t just for old men in smoky bars; it’s for anyone who appreciates depth, complexity, and a bit of mystery.”

Biden, Harris Address Congressional Black Caucus: ‘The Baton Is in Our Hands’

President Biden and Vice-president Harris highlight importance of Black voters for November win and warn against Trump threat

Biden and Harris Emphasizes Unity and a “Battle for the Soul of the Nation

President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris spoke on Saturday at the Congressional Black Caucus’s Phoenix Awards dinner, bringing a message that its members were in a “battle for the soul of the nation”.

“In 2020, I ran for president to redeem the soul of America, to restore decency and dignity to the office of the president,” he said. “I ran to rebuild the backbone of America, the middle class. And I ran to unite the country and remind ourselves when we’re together there’s not a damn thing we can’t do.”

The spectre of Trump, Maga Republicans and the threat Democrats say they pose to the country loomed over Biden’s remarks, and his call to action for those CBC members gathered.

Biden highlighted his relationship with the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), and Black voters.

President Biden emphasized his commitment to unity, stating, “I ran to rebuild the backbone of America, the middle class,” and highlighting the role of Black voters in his 2020 victory. He warned of ongoing threats from extremists, saying, “The old ghosts in new garments [are] trying to seize your power.”

Biden Condemns Trump’s Divisive Actions

Biden sharply criticized Trump for supporting Capitol insurrectionists while opposing racial justice protesters, stating, “My predecessor calls the insurrectionists… ‘patriots’” but sought military action against peaceful protestors.

Harris Calls on CBC to Lead for a Better Future

CBC attendees were jubilant when Harris, also the Democratic candidate for president, walked onto the stage to Beyoncé’s Freedom after the president introduced her as “Kamala Harris, for the people”. Members of Harris’s sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha gleefully greeted her with their trademarked “Skee-Wee” call.

Harris began by highlighting the importance of the caucus. For a November win, she said, the support of the CBC was necessary.

Vice President Kamala Harris rallied the crowd, asserting, “The baton is in our hands.” She emphasized the CBC’s role in ensuring victory in November, advocating for reproductive rights and healthcare. Harris declared, “When the CBC fights, we win.”

Harris: A Vision for the Future

Harris contrasted her platform with Trump’s, highlighting policies like reproductive rights and healthcare. “We actually have a plan for healthcare, not just ‘concepts of a plan,’” she said, emphasizing the importance of tangible solutions over empty promises.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is Arrested in New York After Federal Indictment

Sean “Diddy” Combs Arrested on Racketeering and Sex Trafficking Charges

Sean “Diddy” Combs, the renowned hip-hop mogul, was arrested late Monday in New York following an indictment by a federal grand jury. He faces serious allegations, including racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, according to an indictment unsealed on Tuesday.

Federal Charges Against Combs

Combs, now in federal custody at the courthouse in downtown Manhattan, is accused of orchestrating a “criminal enterprise” through his business empire. The indictment alleges that this enterprise committed crimes such as sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery, and obstruction of justice.

Federal prosecutor Damian Williams stated, “We expect to move to unseal the indictment in the morning and will have more to say at that time.”

Arrest Details and Combs’ Legal Team Response

Combs was reportedly arrested in a Manhattan hotel lobby. A law enforcement official shared details anonymously due to restrictions on public statements.

His attorney, Marc Agnifilo, expressed disappointment with the prosecution’s decision, describing it as unjust. Agnifilo added, “He is an imperfect person, but he is not a criminal.” He asked the public to reserve judgment until all the facts are revealed and emphasized that Combs is innocent.

Long-standing Investigation into Combs

The charges come after a lengthy investigation that first gained public attention in March, when Homeland Security Investigations agents raided Combs’ mansions in Los Angeles and Miami. Combs’ attorney, Aaron Dyer, condemned the raids, calling them a “gross use of military-level force” and labeling the allegations as meritless.

A Storied Hip-Hop Legacy Tarnished

Combs, once known as Puff Daddy, was a central figure in the East Coast-West Coast hip-hop rivalry of the 1990s, working closely with the Notorious B.I.G., who was murdered in 1997. Over the years, Combs’ image softened, transitioning into a successful businessman and family man. However, his reputation took a hit when R&B singer Cassie, a former protégé and girlfriend, accused him of sexual abuse and sex trafficking in a November lawsuit.

Cassie’s Allegations and Their Impact

Cassie’s lawsuit, filed in November, alleged years of abuse by Combs, including beatings and rape. She claimed that Combs forced her into sexual acts and trafficked male sex workers, forcing her to participate while he recorded the encounters. Combs and his legal team have denied the majority of the accusations.

Although it’s unclear if the lawsuit directly initiated the criminal investigation, Combs’ attorney, Aaron Dyer, stated that the case is rooted in “meritless accusations made in civil lawsuits.”

Combs’ Influence in Music and Beyond

As the founder of Bad Boy Records, Combs played a significant role in shaping the hip-hop industry, working with artists like Mary J. Blige, Usher, and Lil Kim. His ventures beyond music, including private-label spirits and the Sean John Fashion line, have suffered since the allegations surfaced. Howard University even severed ties with Combs, and he returned the key to the city of New York at the request of the mayor.

Combs’ Legal Troubles Through the Years

This isn’t the first time Combs has faced legal issues. In 1999, he was acquitted in a high-profile trial related to a nightclub shooting in Manhattan. His then-girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez, was with him when the shooting occurred. Combs was cleared of charges related to carrying an illegal weapon and bribery, while his protégé, Shyne, was convicted of assault.

In the same year, Combs was arrested for assaulting a record executive. He pled guilty to harassment and attended an anger management course as part of his sentence.

A Proclamation on National Voter Registration Day, 2024

(The White House) — American democracy begins and ends with the ballot box — putting the right to vote and the right to decide our Nation’s future in the hands of “We the People.”Voting defines our threshold of liberty and makes everything possible.  On National Voter Registration Day, we recommit to protecting the sacred right to vote, and we encourage every eligible American to register to vote.

Today, there are forces trying to take us back in time.  They are trying to suppress voter and subvert elections.  They are supporting unlimited dark money and extreme gerrymandering to try to influence the election system in their favor.  We saw it on January 6, 2021, when a violent mob of insurrectionists and election deniers breached the Capitol.  It is a solemn reminder that the work to secure our democracy and protect our fundamental rights and freedoms is not over in this country.  Each generation must join the work to preserve our democratic values and norms.

That is why, when I came into office, I was determined to secure the right to vote and the right to have every vote counted.  I signed an Executive Order that directed the entire Federal Government to work on promoting non-partisan access to voter registration and election information.  So far, Federal agencies have worked to make voter registration more accessible for veterans and college students.  The Department of Justice has doubled its voting rights enforcement staff.  United States Citizenship and Immigration Services has worked to ensure that all newly naturalized citizens understand the privilege of voting and have the opportunity to register.  And the Department of the Interior is working to increase Indigenous peoples’ access to voter registration.  Furthermore, Vice President Kamala Harris declared National Voter Registration Day to be one of three National Days of Action on Voting Rights, calling on all Americans, regardless of political affiliation, to come together to encourage voter registration.  This year, one of my guests at the State of the Union was one of the brave Americans who marched in Selma, Alabama, nearly 60 years ago on “Bloody Sunday.”  Thanks to these activists who fought tirelessly for the right to vote — from Seneca Falls, New York, to Selma, Alabama — the 19th Amendment was ratified and the Voting Rights Act was signed into law.  But to fully secure the right to vote in every State, the Congress must take action and pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.

Today, I am thinking of a quote from Benjamin Franklin.  When he was asked if the Founding Fathers had given America a monarchy or a republic, he responded, “A republic, if you can keep it.”  On National Voter Registration Day, we are reminded that our republic is in our hands and it is incumbent upon us to maintain it.  It is in that spirit that we encourage every eligible American to ensure they are registered to vote.  You can verify that your registration is accurate and up to date and offer to help your neighbors do the same.  For more information, visit Vote.gov.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH R. BIDEN JR., President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim September 17, 2024, as National Voter Registration Day.  I call on all eligible Americans to observe this day by ensuring that they are accurately registered and by committing to cast a ballot in upcoming elections.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this sixteenth day of September, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty-four, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-ninth.

Uber Driver Admits to Raping and Killing Single Mom After Picking Her Up

Chanti Dixon Tragedy: Indianapolis Mother Found Dead After Disappearance from Nightclub

Chanti Dixon, a 30-year-old African American mother of two, was tragically found dead after disappearing from an Indianapolis nightclub where she worked. She had taken an Uber ride in the early hours of Sunday morning and was later discovered in a wooded area near her home, with evidence of a violent crime.

Family’s Search Leads to Heartbreaking Discovery

According to WRTV, Dixon’s family became alarmed when she didn’t return home and used her phone’s location to find her. They immediately contacted the police, who then identified the Uber driver, Francisco Valadez, 29, as a suspect. Initially, Valadez told authorities that an armed man had attacked Dixon while she was in his vehicle. However, after further investigation, Valadez confessed to being responsible for her death.

Uber Driver Francisco Valadez Charged with Chanti Dixon’s Murder

Police believe Valadez took Dixon to her street, where he carried out the attack just steps away from her home. Authorities tracked his car to his residence and found evidence linking him to the crime. After providing conflicting accounts of the incident, Valadez eventually admitted to assaulting and killing Dixon.

Remembering Chanti Dixon: A Devoted Mother and Family Pillar

Dixon had only recently moved into her new home on Earhart Street with her two children, Dashun, 13, and Chianti, 10. Her mother, Rise Dixon, spoke lovingly about her daughter, describing her as selfless and deeply devoted to her family. “You could never miss her presence,” she said, recalling the warmth and energy Dixon brought to those around her.

Murder Charges Filed: Indianapolis Police Continue Investigation

Indianapolis Police Chief Chris Bailey announced that Valadez has been charged with murder, describing the crime as senseless and tragic. The family has set up a GoFundMe page to support Dixon’s children, and police are continuing their investigation, asking anyone with additional information to come forward.

Uber Expresses Condolences Following Tragic Death of Chanti Dixon

Uber also expressed condolences to Dixon’s family during this difficult time, and the company is cooperating with authorities as the investigation into this tragic incident continues.

Medicare Scammers Are Back At It, Again

Medicare Open Enrollment Scam Calls Are on the Rise: What You Need to Know

As Medicare’s annual open enrollment period approaches, scammers are ramping up their efforts to target unsuspecting individuals. Scam calls claiming to be from Medicare providers are flooding the country, trying to deceive seniors into sharing personal information.

Real-Life Example of a Medicare Scam Call

Recently, a Consumer Affairs reporter received one of these scam calls from a woman named “Amy,” who claimed to represent a “Medicare provider” called All-American Medical. During the conversation, Amy tried to convince the reporter that they needed a “new Medicare 2025 card” and requested their address to send it. However, when questioned further, Amy abruptly ended the call.

Common Medicare Scam Tactics

These scams come in various forms, including offers of new Medicare cards with supposed identity theft protection chips. Scammers often use these tricks to collect personal information, putting victims at risk of fraud and identity theft.

Protect Yourself from Medicare Scams

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) confirm that these scams often occur in waves. CMS emphasizes that Medicare will never call individuals to ask for their Medicare number or request personal information. Medicare advises people to treat their Medicare card like a credit card and to carefully check Medicare claims for any errors.

How to Report Medicare Fraud

If you receive a suspicious call, CMS urges you to report it. You can contact the HHS fraud hotline at 800-447-8477 or reach out to your local Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) by calling 877-808-2468. Stay vigilant and protect your personal information to avoid falling victim to these scams.

FBI Investigating Apparent Second Assassination Attempt of Trump in Florida

One person is in custody after shots were fired Sunday in what the FBI is calling an apparent second “attempted assassination” of former President Donald Trump at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida.

An AR-style rifle was recovered from the scene, law enforcement officials told NBC News.

Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung said in a statement that the Republican presidential nominee was “safe” following the incident.

At a news conference in West Palm Beach, Sheriff Ric Bradshaw told reporters that Secret Service agents spotted the suspect, who they said had a rifle with a scope in the bushes outside of the golf course. Two backpacks and a GoPro camera were found against the fence by the AK-47 rifle, Bradshaw said.

A representative for the Secret Service at the press conference said it wasn’t clear whether the suspect “was able to take a shot at our agents” before the agents shot at the suspect.

The person in custody who had a semi-automatic rifle and was shot at by Secret Service was identified as 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, according to three senior law enforcement officials.

The Secret Service spokesperson and Bradshaw said the suspect, who they did not name, was an estimated 400 to 500 yards away from Trump.

Trump left the golf course in his motorcade a couple of hours after the incident, which occurred shortly before 2 p.m., and headed back to his Mar-a-Lago resort, a source familiar with the matter said. He has since arrived at Mar-a-Lago, a separate source said.
A senior law enforcement official briefed on the incident told NBC News that Trump was on the golf course when what sounded like gunfire was heard in the near distance.

He was between the fifth and sixth hole on the golf course when the incident occurred, the source familiar with the matter said.

Acting Director of the Secret Service Ronald Rowe is traveling to Florida in the wake of the incident, according to two Secret Service officials. The previous Secret Service director, Kimberly Cheatle, stepped down from her post after the previous assassination attempt on the former president.
Trump’s running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, said in a post to X that the former president was “in good spirits” after the incident.

“Still much we don’t know, but for I’ll be hugging my kids extra tight tonight and saying a prayer of gratitude,” Vance said in the post.

Sunday’s incident will not affect Trump’s campaign schedule this week, a source said.

About two months have passed since bullets whizzed by Trump’s head, one striking him in the ear during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13 when one supporter was killed and two were critically wounded. The gunman was shot dead by Secret Service. During the chaos, Trump was surrounded by Secret Service agents, who escorted him offstage as he pumped his fist and mouthed “fight,” which has since become a rallying cry among his supporters.

The White House said in a statement Sunday, “The President and Vice President have been briefed about the security incident at the Trump International Golf Course, where former President Trump was golfing. They are relieved to know that he is safe. They will be kept regularly updated by their team.”

In a separate post on X, Vice President Kamala Harris said she had been briefed on the incident and added, “I am glad he is safe. Violence has no place in America.” Her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, echoed a similar sentiment in a post to X.

The incident in Florida comes 51 days before Election Day, with polling indicating a tight race between Trump and Harris.

Trump Insists He Won Debate in Truth Social Rants Despite Polls Showing 23-Point Victory for Harris

Trump Had Been “Crushed by a Woman He Called Dumb as a Rock”

Donald Trump is doubling down on his claim of victory following a contentious debate with Kamala Harris, despite widespread criticism of his performance and polling that suggests otherwise. The debate, marked by Trump’s ranting about Haitian immigrants and an odd defense of the “entertainment value” of his political rallies, was seen by many as a low point for the Republican nominee.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump declared, “People are just starting to give me credit for having a GREAT DEBATE,” insisting that voter support, particularly among independents and evangelicals, was turning in his favor. “The Voters and Voter Polls showed it, but the Fake News Media wasn’t giving the credit that was due,” Trump continued, attempting to reshape the narrative around the night.

However, polls paint a different picture. Surveys conducted by CNN, YouGov, and SoCal Strategies following the debate show Harris clearly in the lead, with an average 23-point margin. According to these polls, 57% of viewers believed Harris won the night, compared to 34% siding with Trump.

Even within his own party, Trump is facing criticism. GOP strategist Karl Rove penned a harsh assessment in The Wall Street Journal, writing that Trump was “crushed by a woman he called dumb as a rock,” further amplifying the narrative that the night belonged to Harris, not Trump.

As Trump’s team scrambles to regain control of the campaign, Tuesday’s debate has left them with a steep hill to climb, and a need to refocus on winning back key voter demographics.
