Free Speech Under Attack in Trump’s America: The Racism and Anti-Democratic Attacks by Conservatives
If someone says that Andrew Jackson was a racist, because he said racist things, and passed racist policies, you can’t change history by telling people you are not allowed to say that!
This is what is going on today in Trump’s America. Threats and lies fill the daily news. Teachers are being fired, comedians being cancelled on TV networks, people being threatened either physically or with loss of employment, not by the “left wing” of the political spectrum, but by right-wing groups, pro-Trumpers, racists, Turning Point followers, and outright fascist-minded individuals.
Hypocrisy of Right-Wing Free Speech Claims
Right-wing fanatics are not aligned with the Constitution on free speech, unless it is their use of it, while opposing others wanting the same right. Extremists, left or right, have free speech rights, short of violence, libel, and slander, but opposing free speech in only one direction is the way to dictatorship and censorship. If we lose free speech all is lost to the whims of a dictator.
The right wing in this country is trying to censure speech. They use campus organizations to threaten professors while hypocritically claiming they are for free speech. They attack and terrorize teachers. Once free speech is gone, we have a dictatorship in full bloom. And when this harassment is reported, the right wing tries to censure your comments in violation of the 1st Amendment and uses the BIG LIE that you were the one saying bad things about people who themselves were using hatred and racism.
The Rhetoric of Charlie Kirk
Most of the racist comments by Charlie Kirk are ignored. Kirk said these things, I am not saying this he said these things, and we are entitled to see the facts and comment on them just like he did. Kirk said, “If I see a Black pilot, I’m going to be like, boy, I hope he’s qualified” (On The Charlie Kirk Show, 23 January 2024). “If you’re a WNBA, pot-smoking, Black lesbian, do you get treated better than a United States marine?” (as said on The Charlie Kirk Show, 8 December 2022).
He also said, “Happening all the time in urban America, prowling Blacks go around for fun to go target white people, that’s a fact. It’s happening more and more” (The Charlie Kirk Show, 19 May 2023).
And more, “If I’m dealing with somebody in customer service who’s a moronic Black woman, I wonder if she there because of her excellence, or is she there because of affirmative action?” (The Charlie Kirk Show, 3 January 2024).
Kick also said, in referring to Black women Joy Reid, Michelle Obama, Sheila Jackson Lee, and Ketanji Brown Jackson, “You do not have the brain processing power to otherwise be taken really seriously. You had to go steal a white person’s slot to go be taken somewhat seriously” (The Charlie Kirk Show, 13 July 2023). If you can be harassed for reporting on what HE SAID, we are entering the end of democracy. The Guardian reported that Kirk said,
“The American Democrat party hates this country. They wanna see it collapse. They love it when America becomes less white” (as reported in his own words on The Charlie Kirk Show, March 20, 2024).
When Reporting Facts Becomes “Censorship”
In the words of Ava Johnson, daughter of wrestler The Rock, “If you want people to say nice things about you when you’re dead, say nice things about people when you’re alive.” Worse yet was calling Martin Luther King a “Awful person” and the murdered George Floyd, a father, a “Scumbag.”
If he was not a racist then a duck is not a duck.
