Founder Fighting to Stay on Shelves at Target Finds Huge Support From Women

Tiffany Nicole Cartwright: Championing Representation in Retail with Women-Owned Minority

Tiffany Nicole Cartwright, the passionate founder of G.L.A.M. Body Scrubs, is on a mission that extends beyond her own business success—she aims to ensure that her brand continues to thrive on Target store shelves so she can pave the way for others in the retail space. Cartwright’s commitment reflects a larger movement of empowerment, where community support helps create more opportunities for entrepreneurs.

Empowering Businesses Through Community Support

Cartwright believes that founders have a responsibility to create opportunities for others and to hold the door open, especially in industries where they are underrepresented. “As a Founder in the retail space, I believe we have an obligation to do everything possible to blaze the trail for others and hold the door open for them,” Cartwright explains. “If the door closes for me, I can no longer hold it open for anyone else. And that is just not acceptable.”

Despite being the largest consumer base, Black businesses occupy only 6% of retail space, and they often face significant challenges related to funding. Cartwright highlights this struggle: “Not only are we underrepresented, we are often underfunded, making it difficult to remain on the shelf.” However, support from the community can make a transformative difference.

The Power of Women Supporting Other Women-Owned Businesses

One of the most powerful aspects of Cartwright’s journey is the grassroots support she has received from women across the nation. Social media groups like Black Girls in Target, Black Girls Who Love Target, and Black Women Who Love Target have united to show their loyalty to Black-owned businesses, and Cartwright’s brand has been at the heart of this movement. As a member of these communities, Cartwright feels seen, supported, and inspired by the collective effort.

Sharla Horton, creator of Black Women Who Love Target, spoke highly of Cartwright’s impact. “It has been amazing to have Tiffany in this group! She is such an inspiration to aspiring women founders who have a dream or vision. We all look at her and have a vision of what’s possible! Plus, her scrubs are AMAZING!” The support from these groups has been invaluable, helping to drive the sales and visibility that Cartwright needs to keep her brand thriving.

The Importance of Continued Support for Black-Owned Brands

Cartwright’s gratitude for her community is evident as she urges people to keep supporting Black-owned businesses, especially during the holiday season. “The journey has been difficult, but quitting is not an option,” Cartwright says. “The support has been incredible… knowing my sisters have my back is everything.” This sense of sisterhood and solidarity plays a crucial role in helping Black-owned businesses navigate challenges and sustain their presence in the marketplace.
