Marlon Wayans Just Told The World About The New Movie and We’re Thrilled
The Wayans brothers—Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory—are reuniting with Miramax and Paramount for a new Scary Movie, marking their return to the horror-parody series they first launched in 2000. Originally written and directed by the trio, Scary Movie became a massive hit, grossing over $896 million across five films and setting records for an R-rated comedy.
However, after the success of the first two films, the Wayans were abruptly cut out by Harvey and Bob Weinstein, who took control of the franchise and allegedly used many of the Wayans’ ideas without credit. This change led to a creative decline, and the franchise ultimately lost its edge. Now, nearly two decades later, the Wayans are back with a new original screenplay, aiming to recapture the humor and success of the early days.
The upcoming film, with an original screenplay by the Wayans and longtime collaborator Rick Alvarez, is scheduled to begin filming next year. Miramax’s Jonathan Glickman expressed excitement about the partnership, calling the Wayans’ comedic vision “perfect for today’s audiences.” Paramount will handle the worldwide release, marking a double reunion as the Wayans return to their classic franchise.
