Virgil Abloh, artistic director for Louis Vuitton and founder of Off-White and has passed away after a two-year battle with cancer. The 41-year-old designer was diagnosed with cardiac angiosarcoma, a particularly aggressive form of cancer. Sunday, November 28th, the world was made aware of the private war he was fighting. Virgil’s verified account stated that he will be severely missed, but the memory of his extraordinary soul will live on.

Over the course of his career, he set out to not only break through boundaries, but to break through walls for other talented men of color. He found a passion in creating streetwear that would introduce the other corners of the world to an exclusive culture. In 2009, he interned at famed designer Fendi in the fashion capital, Rome. From there, he collaborated with rapper turned fashion icon, Kanye West, to create impeccable garments.
Virgil caught the attention of worldwide brand, Louis Vuitton, and began a long and flourishing career there. The brand even released a statement on their official Twitter account signifying the devastating loss the fashion community has experienced today. He lives on through his support of the BLM movement and philanthropy. Abloh can especially be remembered by one quote that summoned up the honor of his character and the true meaning of perseverance.
