Viola Davis to Receive Cecil B. DeMille Award, One of the Most Prestigious Honors Given at the Golden Globes
It was announced that this year’s 82nd Golden Globes ceremony will see Viola Davis being presented with the Cecil B. DeMille Award, a highly esteemed honor that is given to an individual chosen from a variety of directors, writers, producers, and actors who have made significant impacts in the film industry. Though there are many people in Hollywood eligible for the award, only one may be chosen for their “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment,” and this year that person is Viola Davis.
The History of the Cecil B. DeMille Award
The Cecil B. DeMille Award was created in 1952, and since then it has been granted to 69 of Hollywood’s most inspiring and influential figures including Denzel Washington, Sidney Portier, Walt Disney, Robin Williams, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hanks and Oprah Winfrey.
Viola Davis Reaching EGOT Status
As a highly lauded actor, producer, philanthropist, activist and best-selling author, Viola Davis is truly a star in a league of her own. She is also part of an exclusive group of artists who have EGOT status, meaning she has won Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards – a feat that less than 30 other people in the world have achieved.
With experience performing onstage in productions like August Wilson’s “Seven Guitars” and “King Hedley II,” to acting behind the camera for major TV and film productions like “The Help,” “Fences” and “How to Get Away with Murder,” as well as being named a New York Times best-selling author for her 2022 memoir, Davis has a wide range of industry skills and knowledge, and is already well established as one of Hollywood’s leading personalities. And with the recognition of this award, Davis’ legacy is now undeniably and indelibly cemented into the halls of fame.
Golden Globes 2025 Set For January
Davis (alongside the yet-to-be-determined winner of the Carol Burnett Award) will be celebrated on January 3rd, 2025 with a gala dinner event, which will mark the first time in Golden Globes history that a special evening is dedicated to the presentation of these two prestigious awards. Davis will also be honored during the televised ceremony which will air on January 3rd on CBS. The rest of the nominees for the Golden Globes will be revealed on December 9th.
