VIA OFFERING $2,500 HIRING BONUS AMID SHORTAGE

VIA Celebrated National Driver ‘Appreciation Day’ Amid Transit Operators Hiring Push Transit offering $2,500 hiring bonus for those qualified

VIA Metropolitan Transit is thanking the bus and van operators who keep San Antonio moving safely and recognizing the team of workers who help keep service on the road. Friday, March 18, is Transit Driver Appreciation Day—a National Day of Celebration honoring the public service of transit drivers and their contributions to our communities. For hours on end, drivers keep to their schedules, check fares, give directions, announce stops, remember requests, and more, all while maneuvering large vehicles through unpredictable traffic and weather conditions. VIA Board members, leadership team, and staff will assemble cheering sections at Centro Plaza and other transit centers Friday to show support, while VIA continues a hiring push for operators and mechanics. The traveling public is encouraged to join VIA and thank their bus or van driver.

A national transit labor shortage has impacted service plans throughout the country, including in San Antonio. In addition to public displays of appreciation for its dedicated staff, VIA is offering a starting wage of $20.25 an hour and an up-to-$2,500 hiring bonus for qualified applicants. Persons interested in joining the VIA team should visit VIAinfo.net/employment to apply.
