UTSA celebrates Women’s History Month with events throughout March
UTSA is hosting celebrations throughout the rest of the month of March in honor of Women’s History Month.
This years theme UTSA chose to mirror the national Women’s History Month theme of “Providing Healing, Promoting Hope.” This month long celebration will include featured speaker series, performances of authors, poets, scholars and the community.
Sonya Aleman, Associate Professor, UTSA College of Education and Human Development’s Department of Race, Ethnicity, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (REGSS) and director of the UTSA Women’s Studies Institute stated, “This year’s theme honors the important role women have played in the current public health crisis, such as helping manage some of the shifts in labor and by serving as caregivers. It’s a nod to recognizing the current moment, as well as all the ways women have provided healing and inspired hope through that work.”
Working with the university’s Multicultural Student Center for Equity and Justice, REGSS and the UTSA Women’s Studies Institute provided for a month full of interesting and educational events. Aleman also explained how she hopes that all attendees will leave each event with a curiosity to learn more.

“I really hope that they walk away with the desire to continue learning about the issues and topics addressed at each event,” she said. “By celebrating Women’s History Month at UTSA, we hope to increase the community’s awareness of all the contributions women have made and the continued inequities women face, so more people can be agents of change to better our society.”
