TIES & TIARAS- 175 DAUGHTERS AND DADS

“Ties and Tiara’s” – Psi Alpha Chapter’s Daddy-Daughter Dance 2023

On February 18th over 175 daughters with their dad’s enjoyed an evening of bonding and dancing. This event had been in the planning stages since COVID-19 shut down our communities.

Sometimes the only time a father dances with his daughter is when he is giving her away at her wedding. This is a shame. I have spoken to dads in the past who have stated these dances were the best night they and their daughters have ever had together. It really can be an unbelievable catalyst to bring fathers and their girls closer together. The main objective of this event was to strengthen the relationship between fathers and daughters, thereby decreasing teen pregnancy, social dysfunction in girls, early substance abuse, as well as the instances of domestic violence that occur in many phases of our daughters’ lives.

To witness dads of different races, socio-economic backgrounds, and various religious beliefs bonding together with their daughters was a beautiful sight. Fathers who would never socialize outside of this venue were brought together and saw they were similar in one common way and that was their love of their daughters.

Most people agree that “father” is a biological title and a little more. Any male parent is technically a father… simple as that. The title of dad is earned through hard work — nurturing, bonding with, and supporting your child for the long haul. On this special evening, the love of dads and daughters were showcased for all to see.

The classic song written and performed by the incomparable Luther Vandross, “Dance with My Father” was chosen for the last song. I pray that these girls hear these lyrics throughout their lives and when their dad’s presence is not near that the memories from this dance provide comfort throughout their journeys in life.

“If I could steal one final glance, one final step
One final dance with him I’d play a song that would never ever end Cause I’d love, love, love to dance with my father again.”
