Historic Doubleheader to Take Place in San Antonio
Tickets are now available for the Fourth Annual Men’s HBCU All-Star Game and the inaugural Women’s HBCU All-Star Game, set to take place on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at the historic Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, Texas. This landmark event will showcase the nation’s most talented basketball players from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in an exciting doubleheader.
A Celebration of HBCU Excellence
Athletes from all four HBCU athletic conferences—MEAC, SWAC, SIAC, and CIAA—along with representatives from Tennessee State, Hampton, and North Carolina A&T, will take center stage. This year marks the debut of the Women’s HBCU All-Star Game, emphasizing visibility, equality, and global recognition for female athletes.
“This is more than basketball; it’s an HBCU experience of a lifetime,” said Travis L. Williams, Founder and CEO of HBCU All-Stars LLC.
The week-long festivities begin on Wednesday, April 2, and culminate with the men’s and women’s games, followed by the NCAA Championship game on April 8, 2025.
Impact on the San Antonio Community
The HBCU All-Star Games promise to deliver more than sports entertainment. Fans will experience dynamic performances from HBCU bands, cheerleaders, dance teams, and members of the Divine Nine, celebrating the rich culture and legacy of Black excellence.
Local leaders, like Bexar County Commissioner Tommy Calvert, Jr., have praised the event’s positive impact on the San Antonio community. “This is a much-needed boost for our community,” said Calvert.
Giving Back Through Outreach
The HBCU All-Stars organization extends its impact beyond the court with community-focused events, including:
- College admissions and scholarship fairs
- Pro day combines
- Scholarships and awards
- Social justice and civil rights panels
- Welcome receptions and awards ceremonies
These initiatives aim to inspire, educate, and empower San Antonio’s youth and underserved communities.
Honoring HBCU Legends
The HBCU All-Star Games were established to honor the legacy of HBCUs and the athletes and coaches who have contributed to the sport of basketball. Many HBCU alumni have gone on to achieve greatness in the NBA, WNBA, international leagues, and beyond.
“We are grateful and honored to bring these historic games to San Antonio,” said Williams. “This platform celebrates the dreams and aspirations of HBCU student-athletes while recognizing the rich history of Black college basketball.”
