‘THEY WERE ASPHYXIATED…’

Archibishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller speaks about the deadly human smuggling victims

Targeting his message towards Gov. Abbott, Archbishiop Garcia-Siller stated, “It was very easy to picture in some way what was inside that trailer. They were asphyxiated.”

The Archbishop made hospital visits after experiencing hours of grief and anguish to those victims who have survived.  The migrants were amongst those inside the tractor trailer and were among dozens who were hot to the touch and deceased.

Last Tuesday the number of deceased rose to 51.  This is the worst case of human smuggling the U.S. has seen in recent history.

“That trailer was abandoned. The bottom line is that immigrants were abandoned. People. People,” he stated. “This is the experience of many immigrants coming to the States even if they cross, they experience the loneliness the abandonment, being abandoned.”

After visiting 2 survivors at University Hospital, 1 a woman who was barely able to share that she was from Guatemala as she was intubated. He stayed with the young woman, praying at her bedside for ever 15 minutes.
