TikTok’s fate in the United States looms in question. The Supreme Court heard arguments on Friday surrounding the impending shutdown of the app, which is currently scheduled for Jan. 19, and appears to be leaning toward upholding the law. Critics cite TikTok as a threat to national security, as US Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar argued, saying
“It’s about trying to close off a vulnerability that a foreign nation adversary could exploit.”
The Biden administration is adamant that the timeline should be upheld, and the court is expected to turn around the decision quickly. While the incoming administration has not taken a public stance on the dispute, it has advocated for an extended timeline in order for it to have an informed point of view on the future of the app.
