“SUMMER FEST” A HUGE SUCCESS AT IDEA WALZEM

IDEA Walzem “Summer Fest”

To celebrate the start of summer and the end of a school year, Idea Walzem’s music club hosted the end-of-year event: Summer Fest. What is Summer Fest you may ask? Summer Fest was a spectacular event that displayed music, extracurricular activities, games, food, and most importantly live performances for students and their families. Parents could register their students for the upcoming school year at Idea Walzem while also getting to know the teachers, staff, and overall Idea culture.

For those already attending Idea, they could hang out with friends and check out other extracurricular activities they might’ve not known about. We got to hear interviews from the Black Student Union and the Pride alliance which are just one of many clubs that help educate and support our scholars. Many guest artists were generous enough to perform for us and those artists included Jay Harts, Andrea “Vocab” Sanderson and many more! It wasn’t just guest artists who performed for us, we also had the Idea Walzem Pep Squad and Choir perform. Just a small glimpse of the amazing talent that Idea Walzem presents. The Walzem weekly can truly say the Summer Fest was a success!

IDEA Walzem’s Pride Alliance Club and Black Student Union Club took time during the Summer Fest to share about their clubs mission and what they are passionate about:

2022 “SUMMER FEST” IDEA WALZEM

Pride Alliance Club- Sierra Branch 12th
What’s the club’s mission statement?

” We help kids in the LGBTQ+ community before the pandemic we would go on field lessons but sadly covid has temporarily put us on hold. We express our voice and support the kids who are having trouble maybe with bullying or their mental health either way we’re here to help.”

What are you looking forward to next year as you go to college?

” I’m excited but a little sad, I won’t be in the club anymore and I’ll just never be in the same environment that has been offered. I’ll mostly miss the teachers. It’s hard to find teachers who actually care about you and your future. Thankfully there seems to be a surplus of them at Walzem. Though I am excited to explore myself and have that freedom of being a college student.”

Black Student Union Club- Mr. Gibson
What do you teach and how long have you been doing it?
“I teach 6th and 7th humanities. It’s our third year as a club and my fifth year as a teacher.”

What do you do as a club?
“We help plan and organize events like the summer fest. You can see us the most active during black history month and we encourage, inspire, and educate students about black culture and history.”

What do you plan to do at the summer fest today?
“I want to meet and welcome the new kids coming into Idea or the kids I’ll be teaching next year. Most importantly just have fun.”
