Texas Ranked #46: One of the Least Excited States for Christmas, BetMGM Study Reveals
As the holiday season kicks off in Texas and around the world, many people eagerly transition from Halloween straight into Christmas, often bypassing Thanksgiving altogether. However, a recent study suggests that Texas isn’t as enthusiastic about the festive season as other states.
Texas Ranks Low on Christmas Excitement
Researchers at BetMGM Casino analyzed Google search trends to measure holiday enthusiasm across the United States. They evaluated 30 Christmas-related keywords, including “Christmas trees,” “decorations,” and “movies,” between November 1 and November 20. Based on the search data, Texas ranked 46th out of all states, landing between Massachusetts and Colorado.

A History of Holiday Humbug in Texas
Texas’s low enthusiasm for Christmas isn’t new. A separate report from CenturyLink, released in 2019, ranked Texas as the eighth least festive state, a drop from its 2018 ranking of 13th. These findings suggest that the Lone Star State has historically struggled to embrace the holiday cheer compared to other states.
By contrast, southern states like Tennessee, North Carolina, and Alabama are consistently among the most festive, topping categories like streaming Christmas music, tweeting about the holidays, and engaging in seasonal traditions.
Texas’s lower ranking may be partly attributed to its sunnier climate, which historically correlates with lower festive zeal. Other warm-weather states like Hawaii, Nevada, and Florida also rank low in holiday spirit.
Kansas Tops the List; Pennsylvania Trails In Last
In a surprising twist, Kansas emerged as the most Christmas-spirited state, while Pennsylvania was ranked the least excited about the holiday season. This ranking highlights a wide spectrum of holiday cheer—or lack thereof—across the country.
